CAUGHT IN MY EYE

CAUGHT IN MY EYE
PUNK ROCK PHOTOS AND POLYMORPHIC PAINTING
BY JILL ASH and JOE O’NEILL
JUNE 12, 2004 – JULY 31, 2004
UNIVERSAL ART GALLERY – VENICE, CA

Caught in My Eye shows June 12-July 31, 2004 at the Universal Art Gallery located at 2001 Lincoln Blvd. Venice, CA. Sponsors include BlankTV.com and Crosscheck Records. Jill Ash’s stunning private collection of photos feature The Whisky, Mabuhay Gardens, The Masque and many other California legendary nightclubs long gone, but well-remembered, as the backdrop for punk rock icons like The Weirdos, The Germs, X, Middle Class, Pat Smear and more with an extensive showing of The Germs in action including some very rare Darby Crash and Lorna Doom flicks. Photo highlights include – “Darby Crash at Mabuhay Gardens SF 1979”

Joe O’Neill has something to say with his art and we dug it. Without excessive verbage, his signs seem to predict the future. With mixed media and a retro style – think old gas station signage mixed with an eerie fortune teller sign vibe – O’Neill’s statements come across loud and clear. Highlights include “The Future is Over” oil on concrete board and “The Loss of the Independence”.

Here are a few photos from the opening reception. Go check out this show while you can or you visit www.framegallery.com or www.doubleojoe.com for more information.
