Based in the heart of Venice Beach, California, Dan Levy lives and breathes skateboarding, music and art, serving these communities through his photography and writing at Juice Magazine, which has been publishing in print since 1993. Dan was one of the key advocates in getting the world famous Venice Beach Skatepark built, which has become one of the most photographed and skated skateboarding facilities in the world.
The majority of Dan’s photos are seen in Juice Magazine, and he has also been published in Rolling Stone, Surfers Journal, TransWorld Skateboarding and Vice. Dan’s photos were also featured in the Made In Venice documentary about the fight for the Venice skatepark, and his commercial work includes Bones Wheels, Gullwing Trucks, Z-Flex, Black Flys, Anaheim Skateboards, Juice and Zephyr ads.
Dan’s photographs, including a shot of Zack De La Rocha, were featured in a book entitled Somos Locos published by the California Locos and the Manhattan Beach Art Center. Dan’s photo of Greyson Fletcher made the cover of Juice Magazine’s 20 Year Anniversary issue celebrating Greyson and the extensive Fletcher family of surfing and skating royalty.
In 2022, Dan partnered with The Waterfront Venice to present a show of his work featuring photos from the last 22 years, with a focus on Venice, California. You can see the show at The Waterfront, which is located at 205 Ocean Front Walk, Venice, California, 90291 on the Venice Boardwalk.
As a skateboarder, Dan was the 3-time champion of the Venice VSA Skate Contest from 2000 to 2003 and he also rode for the illustrious Jeff Ho / Zephyr competition team. Dan has a contagious, positive energy and his photographs are always filled with one of a kind, unique memories.
