PRESS RELEASE:

Rob Machado – legendary surfer, environmental activist and musician – has put together a stellar lineup for the Second Annual benefit concert for the Rob Machado Foundation (RMF, http://robmachadofoundation.org), which will take place on Monday, November 11, at The Belly Up in San Diego, CA. Multi-GRAMMY® winning pop troubadour Jason Mraz will be performing acoustic at this intimate event and The Goo Goo Dolls front man John Rzeznik, who played last year’s sold-out RMF concert, will return for a special solo acoustic set. Breakout Los Angeles band Run River North round out the bill. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

“I’m excited to be hosting a second RMF benefit concert. I’m honored that Jason, John and Run River North are supporting us,” says Rob Machado. “The proceeds from our first event enabled us to do a lot – we’ve brought gardening programs to San Diego schools and just last month we installed new trash bins at Cardiff Seaside Beach, replacing the rusted old cans that gave seagulls easy access to trash that would then wind up back on the beach – so I can’t wait to see how this night unfolds.”

Tickets will be available beginning Friday, October 11, at Noon PT at http://www.bellyup.com/event/rob-machado-foundation-2nd-annual-benefit-concert/. In addition to General Admission and Loft tickets, a limited number of VIP packages – featuring a 6 p.m. meet and greet with Rob Machado and John Rzeznik and an exclusive gift bag – will be available. For additional details, visit http://robmachadofoundation.org.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Rob Machado Foundation, a California-based 501c(3) non-profit private foundation. Founded in 2004,RMF was created to support charities dedicated to environmental programs worldwide. Its primary mission is to provide funding and initiate educational programs focused on helping children understand their contribution towards a healthy earth. With funds raised in the past year – including the 2012 benefit concert, RMF was able to:

  • Fund youth Green Team at 2013 Bro-Am, which diverted over 300 pounds of waste from the landfill
  • Provide program support for implementation of new, more effective trash bins at Seaside Beach. The new cans were designed with eVocal, produced from 100% reclaimed and recycled material, and purchased with the help of Sambazon.
  • Install trash and recycling bins on school athletic fields
  • Fund establishment of Grow Your Own school garden program in San Diego
  • Support school greening initiatives with needed materials/supplies

About Run River North

In the course of a few short months, Run River North went from playing a handful of hometown shows in Los Angeles to performing to an audience of millions on late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” It was an explosive trajectory for the sextet (then called Monsters Calling Home). Produced by Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Built to Spill, Band of Horses), Run River North’s self-titled debut album is set for release on February 25, 2014 via Nettwerk Records. Their songs ebb and flow with optimism, traversing emotional and musical landscapes woven into the strings duo of Daniel Chae and Jennifer Rim, alongside the galloping rhythm section of bassist Joe Chun, keyboardist Sally Kang and drummer John Chong, and vocals of Alex Hwang. Together, their voices coalesce as one, a chorus calling out with a gentle urgency.  The band mates all come from families who moved to Southern California from Asia, and the album reflects their shared search for a sense of home while also addressing the universal struggle for identity. www.RunRiverNorth.com
