BEAUTIFUL LOSERS ON DVD – Oscilloscope Laboratories is proud to announce the December 8, 2009 DVD release of Beautiful Losers, Aaron Rose’s celebration of one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. Featuring Shepard Fairey (Obey founder and creator of the Barack Obama ‘Hope’ poster), award-winning pro skater Ed Templeton, Harmony Korine (writer of the cult favorite Kids and director of Gummo and Mister Lonely), and Mike Mills (director of Thumbsucker and designer of album covers for Beck, Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth and more). The film also stars Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, Geoff McFetridge, Jo Jackson, Margaret Kilgallen, Stephen Posers, and Thomas Campbell. Based on the acclaimed art book ‘Beautiful Losers’ by writer/director Aaron Rose, the film bowed theatrically on August 8, 2008 via Arthouse Films. In the early 1990s a loose-knit group of like-minded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery. Rooted in the do-it-yourself subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip-hop, and graffiti, they made art that reflected the lifestyles they led. Developing their craft with almost no influence from the ‘establishment’ art world, this group, and the subcultures from which they have sprung, created a movement that is transforming pop culture. 2010 WORLD JUNIOR SURFING CHAMPIONSHIP will be held in New Zealand, one of the World’s most unique surfing destinations. The Junior Champs will be held at Piha Beach, a beautiful black sand beach famous for its large waves, just 45 minutes drive from downtown Auckland. The event will begin on January 20, 2010, at the peak of the Kiwi summer. New Zealand is one of the world’s most rewarding surfing spots with quality waves, plenty of choice and relatively few surfers. The main source of swell for both the North and South Islands is from the low pressure systems of the roaring forties, but New Zealand is fortunate to pick up swell from just about anywhere. For those used to fighting for a beach park and some room in the line up, surfing in New Zealand offers a very different experience. Parking is mostly free and being a country of only 4 million people there is plenty of room to catch the perfect wave. For those looking for an adventure, the best surf spots can be found off the beaten track.
