Loud Ones – In the Van #15 – Bob Otis

Juice Magazine, Skeleton Key Mfg and The Loud Ones present this original interview series, “In The Van” by punker skate rockers, the Loud Ones, as they motor through the country and temporarily kidnap interesting characters in their renovated touring machine while sedating them with beers and questions. Today’s episode features Bob Otis – singer for DropDead and guitarist for Extinction Machine.

“Bob is truly the one person in this world I know I can count on any hour of any day for any reason, no questions asked. He will come running, pants on or pants off, depending on the emergency. His brain is like a computer that takes what he hears and instantly processes it into something completely original and hilarious that you’ve never heard before. If you watch him, you can see that even he has no idea what he’s going to say, but it’s always gold. It’s also how he says it. He once uttered the words  “Pina Colada” in reference to some sort of non-existent sex act and just the way he said those words had me on the floor. He’s got a Mitch Hedberg type way of making something funny just in the way he speaks. That’s also why he never tells a story the same way twice. It’s always fresh and funny. Bob increased my kindness toward abandoned city animals. I had never thought much of strays, but watching Bob take the scraggliest runt and transform it back into a beautiful healthy animal that anyone would want was pretty extraordinary. Not too many people have ever actually changed how I think about anything, but he did and it wasn’t through words or loud action. It was by quietly doing the things that make him Bob, every damn day!” – Craig Kureck of Arab on Radar, Chinese Stars & Doomsday Student
