SURF SKATE STYLE WITH JEFF AMENT. INTERVIEW BY JUICE MAGAZINE. PHOTO BY P.
When did you first hear of SurfSkate style?
It was in one of the early Skateboarder mags… probably tied to the Dogtown fellas or Steve Olson.
What does SurfSkate style mean to you and who has the best surf skate style?
The photos I was drawn to were all surf style, getting low, arm position and foot english, but I never fully developed that ocean style. Being landlocked, we had what we call buffalo skate style, the opposite of surf style 😉 To me, TA, Jay, Shogo, Inouye, Olson, Jay Smith, Oster, Tony Farmer, Charno, Brandon Kent had the best surf skate style.
How has surfing influenced skateboarding, and skateboarding influenced surfing?
Surfing gave a start and style to skating and skating gave lip tricks and airbornes back to surfing, not to mention influencing snowboarding, skiing, wakeboarding, bmx riding, etc.
Is SurfSkate style important today?
Sure, especially with so much focus on video game tricks, but the young kids are killing it with style. There are lots of kids doing laybacks, berts and slide variations out there.
