No newcomer to art and no stranger to talent, Doug O Smith, is the star of the show. The display, entitled “Art and Nothingness”, is being hosted by the Venice Art Coalition – Art For the People at the Sponto Gallery in the heart of downtown Venice. The show features a range of Doug O’s work depicting the power of the ocean along with the simple lines of beach architecture in a classic presentation of style and soul.
Perhaps more well known for his original creations during the infamous ’80s era of the skateboarding company Dogtown, Doug O has relayed this aesthetic into all of his new pieces. From skateboard graphics to his original murals on the walls of the legendary Venice Pit, Smith’s work continues to be a unique and invaluable part of the LA urban art community.
Supporters of the opening night celebration included Jesse Martinez, Wiley, Jimmy Valentine, The Lemonds, Tibby Rothman, Jereme Schadler, Jeff Ho, Terri Craft, Dan Levy, Mr. and Mrs. Orion and many others. The “Art and Nothingness” show will be on display at Sponto located at 7 Dudley Avenue in Venice, from October 3 through October 9th with a closing party set for Oct. 9th. For more information call (310) 306-7330.
Smith is also currently working on a mural on the front walls of the legendary surf shop once known as the Zephyr Shop and now known as Horizon’s West, located at Bay and Main St. in Santa Monica. Doug O has finally garnered the level of attention to his work that’s been long overdue. Respect…
