COASTAL CARNAGE FOOTAGE – Super heated sessions went down at Huntington Beach during the Coastal Carnage event hosted by Converse, and here’s some footage to prove it. The Carnage ramp, expertly built by the Speerco Crew, had lines drawn from clamshells to over-vert extensions, complete with shark-bite hips, which showcased generations of skaters. Skateboarding’s finest showed how style means everything, while  younger rippers threw down bigger airs and more technical transfers than ever thought possible. Like a family reunion for everyone with transition in their blood, Coastal Carnage was a perfect venue for a proper bowl jam. Here we caught the practice sessions with Top 3 finishers Tom Remillard, Pedro Barros and Curren Caples. Congrats to all the riders!

PD’S HOT SHOP GRAND OPENING WITH THE SORCERERS – If you care about the history of skateboarding, you’ve got respect for Skull Skates and the man who backed it and helped shape the evolution of the hardcore lifestyle. One of the last remaining skateboarding companies that refused to sell out, PD’s Hot Shop and his crew hold down the reasons why skateboarding entered into this world: community, punk rock and concrete warfare. PD’s Skull Skates Shop on West 4th has been a place of worship for hardcore BC and Canadian skateboarders throughout the hardships and corporate poking the world of skate has had to fight. The place reminded you of the first skate shop that opened in your town, with only enough room for what you need and a counter to tell stories over. The shop is a huge part of Canada’s skate history and the arrival of their new store front has already proven to be another much-needed house of skate for Vancouver. Check out the Grand Opening party where the Sorcerer’s reunite to celebrate the coming of a new breeding ground for the next generation of sessions to go down in Vancouver.

Grosso has been wear-testing classics for over 20 years so it’s safe to say he’s become somewhat of an expert when it comes to fit and function. Before there were any mid-tops available from Vans he would cut down the Sk8-Hi, wrap duct tape over the edges then glue plastic pieces over the vamp to keep from wearing through his toenails during knee slides! This season’s grouping consists of the often-requested Era Pro along with the Sk8-Mid Vert Pro and the Sk8-Hi Vert Pro, all tweaked for maximum performance, and functionality. Features include a removable impact PU sockliner, duracap toe bumper and upper reinforcement and a folded edge detail on the back ankle area of the mid and hi-tops for added comfort. Colored-up in deep red, black and white, Grosso’s Legend Pack is a must have.

Company: Team Pain
Park: Lafayette, Co.
Who was on the crew that built the skatepark?
The crew was a mix of Team Pain veterans with some Colorado locals to round out the line up: James Hedrick, Troy Nichols, Bret Papini, Joe Fernandez, Lance Spiker, Chris Berry, Johny Fairplay, Chris Withrop, Sean Kelly, and Curt Baker.
Staff Photo: Chris Sessions
How did you decide on the design for the park?
Our design process usually starts with several meetings with the local skaters and city officials. In Lafayette the skaters wanted to go big, big vert bowl, big stairs. Parks and rec wanted the best. A skater built world class park. Together, TP and the skate community came up with a killer design. Once on site the crew has almost total freedom to change and improve the park. The people on our concrete crew are all accomplished skaters, you don’t skate all the time you don’t work for us. It’s our job to make a good plan into a great park. The city of Lafayette understood this. They purchased a whole parking lot full of unique materials to add to the park. There was huge granite slabs, brick pavers, tons of large rocks, cut and raw, white marble with tyranny already cut into them and lots of pool coping. When we started grabbing the new curbs from the parking lot they asked if they could get us more. The city was totally behind us and it was fun and challenging to figure out what to do with all this stuff.
What do you like best about the skatepark?
Skating it. A whole lot of ideas that we’ve been working on for years came together in this park and it’s a blast.
Where is your next building project?
Arvada Co., The Arvada Army is expecting big things from us. We are recreating a Team Pain clasic, The Charleston Hanger, the indoor version with the extra bowl.

THE BONES BRIDAGE DOCUMENTARY – Stacy, Rodney, CAB, Tony, MIke, Lance and Tommy will be working on a Bones Brigade Documentary. Stacy wrote, “Those skaters known as the Bones Brigade are now old enough to take a look back. At a time in the 80s when many people were mourning the second death of skateboarding, the Bones Brigade through passion, drive, creativity and a surprising sense of teamwork redefined the sport for their time and the future”. Documentary filmmaker, Stacy Peralta in a new film with Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero and others will investigate the history, the team and the men to determine what is the legacy of the Bones Brigade. Simultaneously, a Powell-Peralta coffee table book is in the works. It will include the Bones Brigade, but also other things you knew and didn’t know about Powell-Peralta.

THE BITTER BOWL – and the Devil’s Triangle. Videos submitted by Kevin Cann. Kevin also built these beauties… Thanks Kevin, and keep up the good works.

Pogues and AC/DC are go!

Why did you choose to play the type of music you do?
Because I was trying to be like my biggest influences.

Words of Wisdom :
If you truly want to destroy an enemy, make him your friend. I paraphrased that from Abe Lincoln. Financial tip: Buy land, they’re not making it anymore.

ALL ACCESS: The Rock ‘n’ Roll Photography of Ken Regan – Ken Regan was there when the Beatles touched down on U.S. soil for the first time in 1964. He caught candid snapshots of their arrival at JFK International Airport in New York City, photographed their backstage downtime at the Ed Sullivan Show and spent a day clowning around with the Fab Four in Central Park. He palled around with the Stones in 1975 in Montauk. He took Dylan’s favorite picture of himself. He hit the gym with Madonna in 1985. He’s ridden shotgun with Run DMC in Hollis, Queens. All Access is a collection of photographs, but more than that, it is a compilation of memories, stories from the front lines of several revolutions: the rock revolution; Pete Seeger’s peace movement and Woodstock (“a photographer’s paradise”); and the birth of hip hop.
