Welcome to the Juice Magazine Skateboarding Hall of Fame II. Those who have been awarded these accolades are those we feel truly represent the blood, sweat and beers of skateboarding. It’s not about total points earned or total wins. it’s about those skaters who have inspired us with their skating style and personalities. those who have endured to forever change the face of skateboarding by pushing their physical and mental limits, daring to go where no one in their right mind would think to go. This first round of inductees represents the first generation of backyard pool and concrete skatepark skaters who skated through the ’70s and early ’80s. We are proud to have gotten to know these unique people and want to thank them for tearing shit up. These are the skateboarders that kept it punk.

DENNIS “POLAR BEAR” AGNEW
One of  the original Z-Boys and Venice surf-skaters. “Polar Bear” is one of the most dedicated hustlers in Dog Town. Some know him as the first person to do an ollie in a pool. He’s pictured here at the Marina Dog Bowl Pro – April 28, 1979.– Eric Britton [photo: Ted Terrebonne – “Skateboarder Magazine” – 1979]

MARTY GRIMES
One of the nicest guys in skateboarding. An authentic Z-boy, backyard marauder, massacre of coping and connoisseur of style. No pool was ever the same after Marty hit it. He sometimes went away bloody but always happy.  –  Dan Levy [photo: Glen E. Friedman “Dogtown – the Legend of the Z-Boys”]

BILL DANFORTH
The American Nomad – is responsible for what’s known worldwide as the “couch tour”. He’s slept under ramps, under cars and under kegs. Wings and beer are his mantra. His skating speaks for itself. He’s traveled the globe in the name of skateboarding. He’s always got a good story and rips every session. Frontside rocks and bomb drops. – Dan Levy – [photo: courtesy Anthony Ruiz]

ERIC DRESSEN
One of the best, if not the best. Once, he was the youngest, then, he was miles ahead of his peers. Two time world champion. Still ripping. The fastest human being on a skateboard. Give credit, when credit is due.. “Hey E.D. – here’s the credit.” – Steve Olson  [photo: Chuck Katz]

RICK BLACKHART
”Nor Cal’s answer to Alva” Independent Trucks, Blackhart Wheels, Tunnel Skateboards… This guy ripped harder than most. Ask anyone that knows anything… The first Doctor of skateboarding. Just ask the Doc. if he rocked!!!
– Steve Olson [photo: James Cassimus]

WES HUMPSTON
Wes’ name holds weight in both the art and skateboard community. When most need you to read between the lines, with Wes, it’s best, to look at his work, and it will tell the rest. A true innovator. His workshop’s ground zero for great skate art that carries on the authentic Dog Town tradition to this day. Wes truly is what a lot of people want to consider themselves – “O.G.”  – Eric Britton [photo: John Palfreyman]

RAY FLORES
Ray Flores is a real skateboarder. From the first Pepsi demos to his influence on Alva, he does everything he can to hand skateboarding down to the next generation with style and grace. Just take a look at his early pool footage of himself and Alva in the “DogTown…” documentary. –  Terri Craft   [photo: Ted Terrebonne]

MARK GONZALES
Original to say the least. Good is not fair, great either, original yes, one of a kind for sure. In a world of sameness all around us, some goofball, comes from somewhere, to confirm that originality is not dead. Or easily copied, I present to you… The Gonz. – Steve Olson [photo: Chuck Katz]

TOM “WALLY” INOUYE
“In small things, big things come”. That’s an understatement when one thinks of Wally. Wally = style. He has finesse and grace… Sick to watch ride. A pioneer who was a huge influence on many. The Emperor…. The IPS - Inouye Pool Service – became a household name due to Wally’s technique and dedication. A devout concrete disciple who takes no prisoners, Wally is the man. – Steve Olson [photo: Arab Groff]

JASON JESSEE
I came to a California to watch my heroes die. The one saving grace of the place was meeting Jason’s high-bond-modified-heart-of-gold. Semi-automatic love… give a little and you’ll get back more than you can handle. From him, I learned how to admit my losses and what it meant to give everything in making those losses. Then to forgive myself and go again. He showed me that I could be wrong about life and come out humbled. Jason has a personality, and interest most people don’t. They use their situations in life as an excuse to never do anything. Jason has no excuse. He is driven to build and destroy a life, his life… no excuses. –  Scott Bourne [photo: Terrebonne]

NATAS KAUPAS
I remember skating with Natas back in the early ’80s. He ran and jumped onto the flat wall, and rode the vertical transition down and pulled it off. I was totally stunned. Little did I know what I was privileged to have just witnessed. It was the beginning of a new type of street skating – wallriding. To this day, Natas is leaving his mark in skateboarding. He is a true legend. – Jesse Martinez. [photo: Chuck Katz]

SHOGO KUBO
The forgotten Z-boy? One of the best-Z-boys. One of the best out of all the boys. Yeah, and it’s about time someone tells it like it is. The rest can duck sick. He’s the one, the only…. Shogo Kubo.  King of style.  – Steve Olson  [Photo by Wynn Miller]

STACY PERALTA
Smart & talented. Got paid when other pimps weren’t. Taught Tony Hawk everything he knows. The list goes on… Stacy could really skate everything, with style; his own too. The winner is… Stacy Peralta.  – Steve Olson -[photo: C.R. Stecyk III  -“dogtown – the legend of the z-boys”]

RAY “BONES: RODRIGUEZ
The original Bones Brigade member, O.G. Powell team rider, before the merge. Super smooth, style master, O.C. ripper, Here he is… The One, the Only, Ray “Bones” Rodriguez !!!!!!!!!!!! – Steve Olson – [photo: Block]

JESSE MARTINEZ
Jesse has contributed much skin, much blood and much tradition. He regulated the rollerbladers, BMXers, and kooks from the valley. No matter where he’s skating – it’s anarchy on the brain. If you ride a skateboard, you’re part of his family and he’ll throw his last left and right hook down for you. – Terri Craft [photo: Ted Terrebonne]

JIM MURPHY
I have met very few people in the world who skate as hard and as gnarly as Murph. He attacks every run as it is his last and his dedication to skateboarding throughout his life and career is undeniable. He has ridden for Zorlac, Alva and Independent and has formed his life alliance with Wounded Knee Skateboards and will forever remain dedicated to the pride. – Dan Levy [photo: Rhino]

DOUG SALADINO
Put everything about Shogo and Wally together, except the Z-boy thing and you’ve got “Pineapple”. He had the amazing ability to make freestyle look cool, on top of everything else Pine chose to ride. There’s only one… “Pineapple”. – Steve Olson – [photo: Terrebonne]

JERRY VALDEZ
Outrageous, funny, hilarious, comedian, get the picture. Jackass doesn’t even compare to any of the stunts, and or antics “the Jer” was pulling off at Pepsi Demo or any other place he felt a need to let anyone know he was “the Jer”, Enough said… Thank you Valdez for being you…. – Steve Olson [Photo: Arab Groff]
