New Image Art Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming show, “California Photography Now” a photographic exhibition, encapsulating the essence of portraiture, urban landscapes, lifestyles and trends specific to the current California environment.  “California Photography Now” featuring; Jerry Hsu, Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Jen “JR”  Reynolds, Curits Buchanan, Tino Razo, Neck Face, Sagan Lockhart, Gregory Bojorquez,  Sandy  Kim, Teen Witch and Retna.

Exposing diverse forms of techniques and photographic-developing-processes some of the artists (Now I Remember Crew) master the techniques and features of cell phones photography while others (Curtis Buchanan, Retna, Greg Bojorquez), use the traditional lense and film techniques while Sagan Lockhart and Teen Witch have been known to use the instant printing service at CVS or Rite Aid.

The show contain influences of photo documentational skateboarding style’s of classic Californian photographers, Ed Templeton, Tobin Yelland and Craig Stecyk with an added “Jack Ass” spin.  Another direction of the show features classically composed traditional subject matter a courant.

About the artists:

Now I Remember; Jerry Hsu, Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Jen “JR” Reynolds, Curtis Buchanan, Tino Razo, Neck Face:  “Now I Remember” brings together seven different personalities as they each share their own photos captured with their cell phones. With the widespread use of the cell phone for capturing life’s most spontaneous moments, their photos provide a glimpse into the daily lives of this colorful cast of characters including: Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Jen “JR” Reynolds, Jerry Hsu, Curtis Buchanan, Tino Razo and Neckface.

Sagan Lockhart– best known for his work documenting the popular Odd Future hip hop collective offers a clever take on the mighty and the gritty of the intriguing industry he grew up in.

Gregory Bojorquez– Los Angeles-born photographer will be exhibiting a series of Urban landscapes “East- Side – Eggleston” as his contribution in “California Photography Now.” Bojorquez’s body of work focuses on urban landscape and everyday neighborhood shots. The photos are crisp views of mural painted walls, structures amid barbwire and palm trees. Bojorquez captures L.A. with a fresh and direct viewpoint.

Sandy Kim-San Francisco photographer recently relocated to NYC. Her work continues to capture her raw and – nature.

Teen Witch– Andrea Sonnenberg is a 23-year-old documentary photographer born, raised, and currently living in the beautiful city of San Francisco, California. Self taught, and only shooting 35 mm, Andrea has been taking photos since she was 14 years old. She aspires to give an outsider a deep and personal look into the goings-on of her generation however beautiful or painful they may be. Teen Witch is part of the Drugs Crew collective and exhibited her photos at MOCA in the “Art in the Streets” exhibition 2011.

Retna– Renowned for his large iconic calligraphic murals and gut wrenchingly beautiful and honest paintings will be exhibiting figurative photographs of mesmerizing images. Retna (Marquis Lewis) created large installations also for MOCA’s “Art in the Streets” exhibition 2011.
