WHO:
Two Frontier Records bands, THE WEIRDOS (http://www.theweirdos.net), Los Angeles first punk rock band, make their much-anticipated return to Los Angeles with THE MIDDLE CLASS (http://frontierrecords.com/middleclass.html), one of the first and most respected punk rock bands from Orange County are headed to the Echoplex this Friday the 13th. Frontier Records (http://frontierrecords.com) & Part Time Punks are presenting the show. Opening acts AUDACITY and CORNERS from Southern California’s hottest new label, Burger Records!

WHAT:
This is THE WEIRDOS first gig in Los Angeles in 8 years! The last time THE WEIRDOS played locally was 2005 at the Sunset Junction. John Denney now resides in New Orleans so any appearances will be few and far between. Besides original members (and brothers) John Denney and Dix Denney, THE WEIRDOS are comprised of bassist Zander Schloss and drummer, Jeff Friedl. Mr. Friedl’s other gig is DEVO’s drummer!
THE MIDDLE CLASS has not appeared in an LA nightclub since 2012. The band features the original line up– also brothers— Mike and Jeff Atta, Mike Patton along with the addition of drummer Matt Simon.
THE WEIRDOS have two volumes of greatest hits and rarities on Frontier Records: Weird World and Weird World II.  THE MIDDLE CLASS released the compilation album, Out of Vogue, on Frontier Records.

WHERE:
The Echoplex in Echo Park! (http://www.theecho.com)

WHEN:
THIS FRIDAY THE 13th! Doors 8pm, 18+!

WHY:
Because “We Got the Neutron Bomb!” : Perhaps best known for punk anthems like, “We Got The Neutron Bomb”, “Solitary Confinement” and “Destroy All Music”, THE WEIRDOS were the leading purveyors of punk rock in Los Angeles circa 1977. However, the punk rock label was something they initially adopted with a bit of apprehension.  In a 1977 interview for Slash magazine they proclaimed “We’re not punks, we’re WEIRDOS from Hollyweird!” This was not just goofy sloganeering— this stance was intended to distinguish the band from the burgeoning punk rock scenes in New York and London.  Moreover, THE WEIRDOS were dwelling in their own urban wasteland (L.A.) that they embodied in their clothes, graphics and songs.

THE MIDDLE CLASS formed in 1977 in Santa Ana California by the Atta brothers – Bruce (15) on drums, Mike (17) guitar. Jeff (20) vocals, and high school chum Mike Patton (20) bass, THE MIDDLE CLASS was the first Orange County band to break into the early LA punk scene. Playing at a speed beyond any of the first wave of LA punk bands, THE MIDDLE CLASS stood out for both their urgent music and their lack of punk pretense and pomp. After a successful reunion show for Frontier Records 30th anniversary in 2010, THE MIDDLE CLASS is now playing occasional, select shows.
