The MSA (Malibu Surfing Association) took place on September 11, 2010 in Malibu CA. All photos were taken by Dan Levy. Attendees include Jeff Ho, Allen Sarlo, Gidget (Kathy Kohner Zuckerman). Celebrity surfers include Anthony Kiedis and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Christina Applegate, Flea, Sam Trammell of HBO’s hit vampire series “True Blood” and Austin Nichols from HBO’s show “John From Cincinnati”. The one thing that everyone on hand shared alike was a true love and respect for the ocean, and the day was a complete success thanks to endless hard work by the MSA crew and the contingency of Malibu surfers. We can’t wait for next year!
The Surfrider Foundation is happy to announce that Anthony Kiedis, Austin Nichols, Brian Geraghty, Eric Avery, and Eric Balfour will join Martyn Lenoble and Christina Applegate at the 5th Annual Celebrity Expression Session on Saturday, September 11th at First Point, Malibu. The Celebrity Expression Session is a 45-minute free-surf that takes place during the Malibu Surfing Association’s MSA Classic, and gives celebrity surfers from music, film and television the opportunity to have some fun demonstrating their skills on an empty First Point, while raising funds and awareness for the Surfrider Foundation.

Malibu, California. September 8, 2010 – The mainland’s premier club competition, the MSA Classic presented by the Malibu Surfing Association, will be held at Surfrider Beach, Malibu from September 11-12, 2010. More than 275 invited athletes representing elite surfing clubs from California, Hawai’i, the East Coast, Australia, and Spain will come together to compete at First Point, Malibu, one of the sport’s iconic waves. “This year our youngest competitor is 9, our oldest, 79 — the surfing collective on display. historic Malibu. So join us and take it all in. We’ll see you there.” said Michael Blum, MSA President. Last year, The Malibu Surfing Association’s Competition Team emerged
victorious. MSA Team members surfed in 12 out of 14 contest divisions finals. Standout performances included: Matt Cuddihy (Noosa Malibu Club), Tony Silvangi (Virginia Longboard Federation), Joe Rickabaugh (Ventura Surf Club), Mary Osborne (Ventura Surf Club), Kaitlin Maguire (Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club), and 8-year old Tiare Thompson

A portion of proceeds from the MSA Classic will be donated to organizations working with the MSA to improve water quality at Surfrider Beach. Major support for the 2010 MSA Classic is provided by Global Surf Industries. Formed in 1961, the Malibu Surfing Association (MSA) is one of California’s first surfing clubs. MSA is an all volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to the fellowship of surfing and to the stewardship of its local break, world-famous Surfrider Beach. The MSA
Competition Team is the 2006 champion of the Coalition of Surfing Clubs’ CSC Series. Online at msasurfing.org.
