Congrats to Geoff Rowley <\/strong>who is celebrating 25 years at Vans<\/strong> and rolling strong as ever. As Rowley spoke of Vans<\/strong> in his first Juice<\/em><\/strong> interview, he reflected, “I ride for the<\/em> raddest shoe company that supports me and I can<\/em> go ahead and finally feel comfortable skating the<\/em> way that I always wanted to try to skate.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geoff’s relationship with Vans started years before he was sponsored by Vans, as Rowley recalled, “When I was growing<\/em> up I played a lot of sports like football. I played<\/em> soccer for my school and I played soccer for a Sunday<\/em> team. I played cricket and I ran, so I was<\/em> pretty active. When I started skating, I had to transition<\/em> out of playing soccer on Sunday morning because<\/em> I would rather have gone skating. I realized,<\/em> \u201cWhy are you doing this? You should just be going<\/em> skating.\u201d I\u2019d go skating and I\u2019d be wearing soccer<\/em> shorts and football socks with a Liverpool football<\/em> jersey with Vans shoes on. There\u2019s probably old<\/em> video footage of me in a full-length soccer kit with<\/em> skate shoes on<\/em>.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Geoff reflected on growing up in the U.K. he was naturally wearing Vans from the start. “On a Saturday, I would be at a friend\u2019s<\/em> house by 8:30 AM on the dot. We would take a bus<\/em> into the city at 8:42 AM. We\u2019d get our skate gear<\/em> together and put on some high top Vans and some<\/em> bright Bermuda shorts and a Santa Cruz Speed<\/em> Wheels shirt or OJ shirt and we\u2019d take the bus into<\/em> the city. We\u2019d go to the skate shop first because<\/em> that was on the way to the skate spot. We\u2019d get off<\/em> the bus in town and skate down the hill to the skate<\/em> shop and see if any of our friends happened to<\/em> come in. A lot of guys would meet at the skate shop<\/em> in the morning and then everyone would go skate<\/em> different parts of the city.<\/em>“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whenever we think of Rowley, this quote from his Juice<\/em> interview<\/a> reminds us of one slice of Geoff’s character. “Standing up and doing<\/em> your own thing is commendable, It\u2019s what skateboarding was built on, inspired<\/em> leadership; people who aren\u2019t afraid to stand up<\/em> and do what\u2019s right, for themselves and their own<\/em> skateboarding.
