Set to take place from\u00a07:00-9:00 PM<\/strong>, this very special evening will feature a conversation and Q&A with\u00a0Parker<\/strong> and\u00a0Pamela Des Barres<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(who not only wrote the book\u2019s afterword, but was a longtime friend of Miss Mercy\u2019s), a\u00a0Starcrawler<\/a>\u00a0live performance and a DJ set from\u00a0Miles Tackett<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Available now, Permanent Damage: Memoirs of An Outrageous Girl<\/strong> shows us the world of the 1960s and 1970s music scene through\u00a0Mercy Fontenot\u2019<\/strong>s eyes, as well as the fallout of that era–experiencing homelessness before sobering up and putting her life back together.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Written just prior to her death in\u00a02020<\/strong>\u00a0with veteran music journalist\u00a0Lyndsey Parker<\/strong>, Miss Mercy\u2019s journey is a can\u2019t miss for anyone who was there and can\u2019t remember, or just wishes they\u2019d been there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercy Fontenot<\/strong>\u00a0was a Zelig who grew up in the San Francisco Haight Ashbury scene, where she crossed paths with\u00a0Charles Manson<\/strong>, went to the first Acid Test, and was friends with\u00a0Jimi Hendrix<\/strong>\u00a0(she was later in his movie\u00a0Rainbow Bridge<\/em>). She predicted the Altamont disaster when reading the\u00a0Rolling Stones\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0tarot cards at a party and left San Francisco for the climes of Los Angeles in 1967 when the Haight \u201clost its magic.\u201d\u00a0Pre-order the book\u00a0here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miss Mercy\u2019s work in the\u00a0GTOs<\/strong>, the\u00a0Frank Zappa<\/strong>-produced all-female band, launched her into the pages of\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/strong>\u00a0in 1969. Her adventures saw her jumping out of a cake at\u00a0Alice Cooper\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0first record release party, while high on PCP, and had her travel to Memphis where she met\u00a0Al Green<\/strong>\u00a0and got a job working for\u00a0the Bar-Kays<\/strong>. Along the way, she married and then divorced\u00a0Shuggie Otis<\/strong>, before transitioning to punk rock and working with the\u00a0Rockats<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Gears<\/strong>. This is her story as she lived and saw it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a 6\/2\/21 feature in\u00a0The Guardian<\/a>,\u00a0writer Jim Farber called\u00a0Permanent Damage: Memoirs of An Outrageous Girl<\/strong>\u00a0a \u201craucous new book\u201d that details \u201cthe incredible, outrageous life of Miss Mercy.\u201d\u00a0He adds that \u201cthe book reads like a romp, aided by Mercy\u2019s keen sense of the absurd\u00a0and flair for black humor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
