Black Flag was straight up one of the most influential bands in history. The fuck you attitude coupled with sarcastic observations of mainstream culture shot through distorted amps and like minded crowds literally helped define a generation. Chuck Dukowski is a smart bad ass who continues to raise his middle finger in the air and mean it. This is a conversation between two icons who continue to influence the world to this day. Hello? Is this Chuck? This is Christian Fletcher.<\/strong>
\nGreetings, Christian Fletcher. Where you at?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m in San Clemente at work.<\/strong>
\nWhat\u2019s work?<\/p>\n

My family makes traction for surfboards, and sandals, and surf movies. I do mostly shipping and stuff like that.<\/strong>
\nRight. I know that game.<\/p>\n

My kid and I work for my mom and my dad.<\/strong>
\nAmazing.<\/p>\n

So you think you\u2019re some kind of rock star or something? I got all day to wait around for you while you\u2019re drinking coffee and shit?<\/strong>
\n[Laughs] I wasn\u2019t ready for the interview.<\/p>\n

[Laughs] I\u2019m just fucking with you, man.<\/strong>
\nI suppose there\u2019s some reality to that, but that\u2019s not why.<\/p>\n

[Laughs] Well, I\u2019ve done some interviews with people and been falling asleep or nodding out in the middle of it, and then I wake up a few minutes later and finish it up, so I understand.<\/strong>
\n[Laughs] I\u2019m not doing any of that. I wasn\u2019t even drinking coffee. I was shy. I don\u2019t know. There are two sides to me.<\/p>\n

Are you a Gemini?<\/strong>
\nNo.<\/p>\n

I grew up around a lot of Gemini\u2019s and they made me believe in astrology. My brother is a Gemini. My cousin is a Gemini and they\u2019ve got personalities for every year they\u2019re alive.<\/strong>
\nI don\u2019t know about astrology. It was pretty popular when I was in college. George Bush liked it right? Or was it Reagan\u2019s wife that liked astrology? Hitler was into it.<\/p>\n

[Laughs] It seemed to work for him, I guess.<\/strong>
\nI guess not. It worked pretty badly for a few million people, like everybody in Germany. It was Hitler against the world, and if you were Jewish, it was especially a bad thing.<\/p>\n

Yeah. That really would have sucked. Are you into politics?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019m not a politician, but I do stay abreast of events and try to impact things in a positive direction. I feel like everybody needs to try to move the world to a better place. I think it\u2019s their responsibility, unless they\u2019re assholes and then they\u2019re trying to move it to a worse place.<\/p>\n

It seems like there\u2019s a lot of assholes out there.<\/strong>
\nThere are some big assholes out there, and then there are people who feel like their voice is futile, and it doesn\u2019t help for them to do anything, so they go ahead and just become tools. I think that that\u2019s a negative thing. It\u2019s important to represent for your beliefs.<\/p>\n
