Those with a deep love for skateboarding understand we are all standing on the shoulders of the ones that came before us… Everything we do is building on top of what has already been done. Knowing this, one can see how important someone like 1960s pro skateboarder and icon Patti McGee is to the larger community. We all share in Patti\u2019s lineage and were very fortunate to have our own matriarch willing to spend time and share experiences in surfing, skating and living life on her own terms.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, August 16, 2018 the Patti McGee Boarder To Border tour touched down at Skull Skates\/ PD\u2019s Hot Shop in Vancouver Canada for the final stop on an eleven city tour covering the West Coast of the USA and Canada. With a mix of varied skateboard practitioners in the house, Patti extended warm welcomes to all and expressed a generosity reserved especially for her large and ever-growing skateboard family. The stories flowed and those in attendance came away with an ever greater feeling of being part of something very special as skateboarders .<\/p>\n

Patti McGee was the first female professional skateboarder and she set the world record for the fastest girl on a skateboard at 47mph during Dick Clark’s World Teen Fair 1964 held at the Orange County (CA) Fair Grounds.\u00a0She was paid by\u00a0Hobie<\/a>\/Vita Pak to travel and demonstrate the Hobie skateboard on a national level and, during the tour, Patti appeared on the TV game show What’s My Line?<\/a>\u00a0on May 16, 1965 and on\u00a0The Johnny Carson Show<\/a>.\u00a0Patti McGee was featured on the cover of Life magazine May 14, 1965 and the cover of the fourth issue of\u00a0Skateboarder\u00a0in October 1965. In 2010, the\u00a0International Association of Skateboard Companies\u00a0(IASC) held the “2nd Annual Skateboarding Hall of Fame Honors Six of the Most Influential Skateboarders of All Time.” and Patti McGee was the first female to ever be inducted into the\u00a0Skateboarding Hall of Fame<\/a>.<\/p>\n
