What\u2019s the most fun DIY, skater-built or renegade spot that you\u2019ve skated lately?<\/strong>
\nYou know if you\u2019ve ever entered the Weird Woods. Time stops, and the ripping commences. From two foot crusty vert corners, to the 14-foot full pipe, Kook has it all. It\u2019s going to be nuts when the ocean-themed snake run is finished!<\/p>\n

Have you ever built something to skate?<\/strong>
\nGrowing up an hour from civilization, I started building young. My parents used to pick me up wood from the dump. Before moving, I rebuilt a handful of ramps at my local park in Old Town, but there hasn\u2019t been much to build in Portland. We put in an S-rail at the park, but the city took that out pretty quick.<\/p>\n

Who do you like to skate with these days?<\/strong>
\nOh man, there are too many! The best sessions would be with Chris Peterson, Isaiah O\u2019Brien, Adam Legassie, and the homie Maxwell Press, but he just ran off to Puerto Rico for the winter! Those four dudes always keep it fun and creative.<\/p>\n

Best skate graphic you have seen lately?<\/strong>
\nAnything by Bobby Brown! That dude kills it!<\/p>\n

Best thing you\u2019ve skated in a skatepark?<\/strong>
\nAny small vert quarter is fun! Oxford Hills has a good one.<\/p>\n

Favorite skateboarders of all time?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019d have to go with Dan Drehobl, Tony T and Kevin Kowalski. They\u2019ve always gotten me hyped.<\/p>\n

Is there anything that hasn\u2019t been built to skate yet that you\u2019d like to see built?<\/strong>
\nBring vert to Maine!<\/p>\n

Best road trip you ever took?<\/strong>
\nThere was a trip that Alex, Brandon and I took to Boston. We were supposed to stay at a buddy\u2019s house after Skatefest, but I got a weird feeling that we had the days wrong, so I checked my phone and noticed we left two days early! We had nowhere to stay, so we ended up just skating Boston all weekend and crashing in the car. It was the most unplanned and spontaneous trip. We filmed it all, but we were only 16 at the time, and I didn\u2019t want to get in trouble by mom.<\/p>\n

What music have you been listening to?<\/strong>
\nWarm up to some Dead, cruise to Fidlar and haul ass to Black Flag.<\/p>\n

What do you consider the responsibilities of a professional skateboarder?<\/strong>
\nHanging out and killing it. It seems weird getting paid to skate, but if you kill it, you kill it. Just make sure you\u2019re not a dick and keep skating.<\/p>\n

Which skate shops do you support most?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019ve always been down for Backwoods! It\u2019s definitely the best shop in Maine. Red Alert is rad too. They\u2019re as raw as it gets.<\/p>\n

Favorite skate photo of all time?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019m not sure. There was a photo my buddy Alex had hanging in his car of Jeff Phillips doing an ally oop no grab over a channel from like 92\u2019 I think. That pic is sick!<\/p>\n

What is your take on girls skateboarding?<\/strong>
\nEveryone needs to skate. I almost got in a fight the other day at the park about girl skateboarding. This guy\u2019s argument was \u201cgirls just aren\u2019t meant to skate.\u201d\u00a0I\u2019m not going to name names, but there are plenty of girls who rip way harder then you.<\/p>\n

What skateboarding memorabilia do you have that means the most to you?<\/strong>
\nKook gave me an old Tommy Guerrero deck from 1985 that I\u2019ve been wanting to set up, but I don\u2019t want to mess it up too bad. It\u2019s hanging in my van.<\/p>\n

Who contributes the most to your local skate scene?<\/strong>
\nJosh Kaffer deserves a shout out. When I lived in the Bangor area, this dude did everything for the Bangor park. He built the park from the ground up and worked with the city and spent his own money and time, building ledges and placing rails. He did as much as he could for Bangor while he was around. Even after moving to Wyoming, he still stays in contact with the city of Bangor in hopes of bringing the city a real skatepark.<\/p>\n

Top three favorite skate tricks?<\/strong>
\nBonelesses, no complys and dad grinds!<\/p>\n

Do you think skateboarding should be in the Olympics?<\/strong>
\nNo. Street League is enough embarrassment.<\/p>\n

What is your proudest moment in skateboarding so far?<\/strong>
\nMy proudest moment would be moving to Portland and living in my van outside Chripy\u2019s house. Block away from the park, I\u2019m living the dream.<\/p>\n

ABOUT THE JUICE MAGAZINE STATE OF SKATE:<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we started Juice Magazine 22 years ago, you could count the number of skateparks on one hand and grindable pool coping was mostly a distant memory. Now there are thousands of skateparks all over the world, along with a vast quantity of DIY spots built to skate. In 1993, the majority of skateboarders listened to punk rock or hip hop exclusively. Now skateboarders listen to almost every kind of sound created. Two decades ago, skateboarding related charities were non-existent. Today, there are numerous non-profits giving back to skateboarding in many ways. One of the most important differences between now and then is that, 22 years ago, there was a clear division between old school and new school skateboarding. Now that wall of separation has followed the same path as the Berlin Wall, allowing for an unprecedented unification of skateboarders all over the globe. Great strides have been made for girls that skate as well as the acceptance of skate history and long overdue recognition for skateboarding\u2019s pioneers and its artifacts. At the same time, the current generation of skateboarders is taking skateboarding to new heights, previously unimaginable. As the landscape of the skateboarding industry changes on a daily basis, and the topic of skateboarding in the Olympics rears its head once again, along with the disturbing subject of who controls skateboarding being tossed about by corporate entities, we decided it was time to take a good look at the State of Skate. We asked 20 questions to 100 skateboarders, ages 8 to 58, and found that skateboarding is as diverse as the skateboarders that are addicted to it, no one controls skateboarding except skateboarders, and the State of Skate is savage and strong.
