What\u2019s the most fun DIY, spot you\u2019ve skated lately?<\/strong>
\nHadley Skatepark! Over the last year, my friend Ryan and I we raised enough money to build a 16FT X 19FT A-Frame obstacle at the skatepark I grew up at in Lowell, Massachusetts. It was a huge build for what we grew up skating. Every year, we are trying to raise more, so will see what happens in 2016!<\/p>\n

Who do you like to skate with the most these days?<\/strong>
\nThere\u2019s a contest happening every other weekend, so it\u2019s just been constant travel for me. I\u2019ve been doing rad missions with Manny Santiago and Serria Fellers over the last month.<\/p>\n

Best skateboard graphic you have seen lately?<\/strong>
\nAny Evan Hecox graphic is amazing!!<\/p>\n

Best thing you\u2019ve skated in a skatepark?<\/strong>
\nRecently, I\u2019ve been hyped on skating the hip at Diamond skatepark. The skatepark I grew up skating never had one, so I\u2019ve been hooked on learning new tricks. Ally oop.<\/p>\n

Favorite skateboarders of all time?<\/strong>
\nLance Mountain, Ray Barbee, Felix Arguelles,\u00a0Frankie Hill, Paul O\u2019Hara, Jeremy Reeves, Daewon Song, PJ Ladd, Michael Mackrodt,\u00a0Scott Kane, Paul Rodriguez, Justin Brock, Bryan Herman, Dan Zvereff, Manny Santiago, Brad Cromer, Kelvin Hoffler, Luan Olivera, Kevin Tshala, Travis Stenger, from Antihero that did that trick on Hollywood High. Is there anything that hasn\u2019t been built to skate that you\u2019d like to see built?<\/strong>
\nRoof hubba into a ditch \/ hill bomb?! It has to exist somewhere!<\/p>\n

Best road trip you ever took?<\/strong>
\nMeet The Stans – It was a cross country trip throughout China. Check out Visualtraveling.com for more info. Patrick Wallner is a great film maker; we had quite the experience!<\/p>\n

Are there any skate-related charities that you support?<\/strong>
\nI started a company called ShapeThree. I take my old broken boards and create rings \/ household products. I give a percentage back to the skate scene where I grew up skating in Lowell, Massachusetts. I heard Tony Hawk built over 5,000 parks. If so, that\u2019s amazing.<\/p>\n

What music have you been listening to?<\/strong>
\nTalking Heads, Bob Marley, Lord Huron, Kygo, Biggie.<\/p>\n

What do you consider the responsibilities of a professional skateboarder?<\/strong>
\nDoing epic shit, building the skate scene, taking care of your body and not over partying. I\u2019ve watched too many people get caught up…<\/p>\n

Which skate shops do you support?<\/strong>
\nI got into skateboarding from my uncles. When I was six, they were cutting down a mini board with a skill saw to make it my size. Ever since then, I\u2019ve been a skate rat. Haha. My uncle has a skate shop in North Hampton, New Hampshire called Pioneers Skateshop. Stop in, if you\u2019re in the Northeast!<\/p>\n

Favorite skate photo?<\/strong>
\nDan Zaslavsky shot a photo of Jeremy Reeves at the slide drop in gap in SF. If you know this gap, Reeve\u2019s ripped a heelflip, which is insane!<\/p>\n

What is your take on girls skateboarding?<\/strong>
\nAwesome.. Shred!!<\/p>\n

What skate memorabilia do you have that means the most to you?<\/strong>
\nThe pool hall series by Evan Hecox is an amazing set I purchased, but I\u2019d have to say, in the box and all, is Manny\u2019s first signature shoes.<\/p>\n

Who contributes the most to your local skate scene?<\/strong>
\nGreg Ware. He created the four skateparks in Lowell, MA.<\/p>\n

Top three favorite skate tricks?<\/strong>
\nFront blunt, a good ole slash grind and fs. flip.<\/p>\n

Do you think\u00a0skateboarding should be in the Olympics?<\/strong>
\nAt this point, do it. It would give people like my good friends: Cody, Kelvin, Luan, Manny, Cole, Nyjah (along with any others in Street League) a wild opportunity to push the skate scene that much further to a new audience. There is street skating and then there is contest\/Olympics. Don\u2019t get me wrong though. I\u2019d rather see something raw in the streets.<\/p>\n

What is your proudest moment in\u00a0skateboarding so far?<\/strong>
\nEvery time I step on my board to cruise out for the day with friends.<\/p>\n

ABOUT THE JUICE MAGAZINE STATE OF SKATE:<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we started Juice Magazine 22 years ago, you could count the number of skateparks on one hand and grindable pool coping was mostly a distant memory. Now there are thousands of skateparks all over the world, along with a vast quantity of DIY spots built to skate. In 1993, the majority of skateboarders listened to punk rock or hip hop exclusively. Now skateboarders listen to almost every kind of sound created. Two decades ago, skateboarding related charities were non-existent. Today, there are numerous non-profits giving back to skateboarding in many ways. One of the most important differences between now and then is that, 22 years ago, there was a clear division between old school and new school skateboarding. Now that wall of separation has followed the same path as the Berlin Wall, allowing for an unprecedented unification of skateboarders all over the globe. Great strides have been made for girls that skate as well as the acceptance of skate history and long overdue recognition for skateboarding\u2019s pioneers and its artifacts. At the same time, the current generation of skateboarders is taking skateboarding to new heights, previously unimaginable. As the landscape of the skateboarding industry changes on a daily basis, and the topic of skateboarding in the Olympics rears its head once again, along with the disturbing subject of who controls skateboarding being tossed about by corporate entities, we decided it was time to take a good look at the State of Skate. We asked 20 questions to 100 skateboarders, ages 8 to 58, and found that skateboarding is as diverse as the skateboarders that are addicted to it, no one controls skateboarding except skateboarders, and the State of Skate is savage and strong.
