The Fairfax corridor and Melrose in Los Angeles is where it’s all happening for the skateboarding industry in L.A. Home to Supreme, Diamond Supply Co., Kayo, Buddy & Rick’s Six Stair studio, Powerplant Choppers, The Hundreds, Crooks & Castles, Hall of Fame, Brooklyn Projects and many more, it’s a hub of natural creativity that is fueling today’s skateboarding industry.<\/p>\n

From April 24 through May 10, 2015,\u00a0Oakley has taken over a gallery space right in the middle of the madness on\u00a0Melrose to present,\u00a0Studio L.A., a pop-up art studio, creative zone\u00a0and mini-skatepark, in order to celebrate the obsession with skate culture and pay respect to Los Angeles, the birthplace of skateboarding. Oakley In Residence: LA will be providing a hang-out for photographers, artists, filmmakers and skateboarders to contribute art\u00a0with a focus on\u00a0Los Angeles in an effort to give back to the local community and inspire other artists to get involved. Free and open to the public daily, 11am-8pm, the Oakley venue will be offering workshops, art shows, exhibitions, demos, skate sessions and film screenings.<\/p>\n

For the first week of events, Oakley joined up with Girl Skateboards Art Dump to pay tribute to eight of Los Angeles most famous skate spots. Artists and designers showed appreciation for\u00a0these classic\u00a0skate spots by creating a skateboard graphic, artwork and a specifically designed flag to honor these diverse locations. Art and design wizard, Andy Jenkins described the collection\u00a0as a kind of, “United Nations of L.A. skate spots.”<\/p>\n

Artwork for this ingenious\u00a0exhibition include Nate Hooper’s tribute to the recently liberated Santa Monica Courthouse, Nick Zegel’s compliment\u00a0to the legendary Pink Motel Pool, Andy Jenkins memorial\u00a0to the Wilshire handrail, Andy Mueller’s nod\u00a0to Hollywood High, Chris Waycott’s acknowledgement\u00a0of the Santa Monica triple set, Eric Anthony’s accolades\u00a0to Gardner, Carlos Gutierrez’ recognition\u00a0of Lockwood and Jeremy Carnahan’s tribute to L.A. High.<\/p>\n
