JEFF HO “THE BOARD” SHOW OPENING NIGHT:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It felt like walking into sunshine on\u00a0opening night of\u00a0the Jeff Ho “The Board” show at the C. Nichols Project. The gallery was aglow with spectacular\u00a0surfboards and a sea of happy faces. With the good vibes of a family reunion, the event was an\u00a0epic\u00a0success and everyone was ready to party and dance\u00a0the night away. Friends and family gathered around one of our finest patriarchs and paid tribute to the traditions he has stayed true to his whole life.<\/p>\n

Christine Nichols graciously provided the food truck, the kegs and the gallery space to ensure the crowd had a great time. Jeremy Parker and Jack Carlos entertained\u00a0the crowd with a song dedicated to Jeff Ho that was so clever and hilarious, it had the whole place bumping. The crowd was filled with generations of talented surfers and skaters\u00a0including Jay Adams’ son, Seven Adams, Shogo Kubo’s son, Shota Kubo, Allen Sarlo’s son, Colton Sarlo, and many more, giving everyone a profound assurance that the future is bright and full of ripping and raging in true Z-Boy style.<\/p>\n

On Dec 12th, 2014 from 6-8p.m., Jeff Ho will be doing a book reading from his essay in Glen E. Friedman’s My Rules<\/a> book (learn more about My Rules at Friedman’s blog here<\/a>) and debuting a new video with highlights, footage and photos from opening night of\u00a0The Board\u00a0show. Vibrant colors, metal flake paint, aggressive tiger stripes and traditional Zephyr\u00a0art will be the backbone of the new Jeff Ho exhibit\u00a0\u201cThe Board\u201d, but the heart of the show will feature the journey of one very special surfboard from its creation in an underground renegade shaping room in Hawaii 15 years ago to one of its last rides, in honor of Jay Adams, during\u00a0the epic 2014 Malibu swell\u00a0from Hurricane Marie.\u00a0For the last few months, the magic has been brewing in the shaping room and, for this particular\u00a0event for the C. Nichols Project, Ho\u00a0will be presenting a brand\u00a0new quiver of surfable art. This amazing\u00a0display will be comprised of\u00a0six classic longboards plus\u00a0six of the charger high performance thruster boards that Ho has\u00a0been shaping\u00a0for\u00a0Allen Sarlo including\u00a0the board that the \u201cWave Killer\u201d\u00a0rode at Big Wednesday shooting\u00a0the Malibu pier as seen in new surf doc, \u201cRemember The Wedge.\u201d\u00a0Local music impresario and funmaker, Jeremy Parker, will be performing, along with Jack Carlos, the bass player from Meet Me At The Pub. This event will also serve as\u00a0the release party for Meet Me At The Pub\u2019s newest 45-inch vinyl release featuring the song, \u201cThe Working Man\u201d from the album, \u201cFriday\u201d, for which Jeff Ho did the cover artwork.\u00a0Join family and friends for the opening on Nov 29th, at 4pm sharp.<\/div>\n

c.nichols project<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is honored to present \u201cThe Board\u201d by legendary surfboard shaper Jeff Ho for its\u00a0annual holiday surf show. \u00a0For this very special show, c. nichols projects will be open Monday-Saturday from noon to 6pm with a schedule of events forthcoming.<\/p>\n

In his own words to Glen E. Friedman for his book \u201cMy Rules,\u201d published in 2014, Ho writes, \u201c The search for that adrenaline rush, whether it is going down a hill or riding a wave, keeps me going. It\u2019s also about the search for the magic board, one that becomes an extension of your body. When you ride it, you can do no wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

It seems that everyone who surfs has a board that they consider \u201cmagical.\u201d You always have a great time surfing it, and cannot imagine your quiver without it. Ho shaped that board for himself in 1999 while living on Hawaii\u2019s North Shore.\u00a0 Most recently, Ho surfed that same board at Malibu during the swells generated by Hurricane Marie, a.k.a \u201cBig Wednesday 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeff Ho owns a longstanding place at the very center of surf and skate culture since the late 1960\u2019s. His pioneering Zephyr Productions served as the center of a cultural revolution called Dogtown and Z-Boys that continues to inform contemporary surf and skate style today.\u00a0 Jeff Ho has shaped, for years, the boards for such notable surfers as Allen Sarlo, Usen Gusman, Craig Freebairn,\u00a0Kyle Flemster, Michael \u201cBadger\u201d Meier, Johnny Fish, and Gary Gonzalez amongst others.<\/p>\n

With infinite patience and intense concentration, Jeff Ho has shaped six single-fin longboards from the template of The Board. These new boards range in size from 9\u20191\u201d to 10\u20192\u201d. Airbrushed in Jeff Ho\u2019s signature style, these are hand-shaped longboards, each one unique from the hands of a master-shaper. Chances are good that a few shortboards will show up for sale as well during the course of the show.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
