What started as a small independent surf film, has evolved into an incredibly important human rights cause for the people of West Papua.

“Isolated” originally began as a documentary about a group of feral surfers looking for undiscovered waves in the deepest parts of West Papua. In order to truly go “feral” the cast and crew traveled to the highly dangerous “No Media Zone” of West Papua to shoot the film. Through their interactions with the indigenous people’s they encountered, who often spoke about topics that could endanger their lives, the team uncovered a dire human rights situation and deadly conflict in the region. The cast and crew put it upon themselves to bring the West Papuans message for peace to the world and “Isolated” will do just that.

“When we were given an opportunity to search for waves and experience a culture that very few people have explored, there was no question I wanted to be a part of this film. Then we were exposed to the human rights situation in West Papua during filming, and I knew this project had become much more important than your average surf film,” said Ryan Phillippe, the project’s Executive Producer.

In order to raise further awareness about this situation, which was actually brought to Congress in 2008 under Resolution 1355, the film’s producers have set up the “Isolated Ambassador for Peace” campaign. The goal is to get influential people, and eventually as many others as possible across all walks of life to help the people of West Papua through short videos declaring their support for peace. To date the film has gotten the support of well known personalities like <ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">Ryan P</ins>hillippe<ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">, Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), </ins>Jeb Corliss (Adventure Athlete),<ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50"> Curren Caples (</ins>Pro Skateboarder<ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">),</ins> Greg Hetson (of Bad Religion), Jack McCoy (Legendary Surf Filmmaker) and many others.

“Isolated” partnered with non-profits Love is Louder and Surfrider Foundation, is from Something Kreative Films, directed by Justin LePera and <ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">Produced by </ins>Geoffrey James Clark<ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">, Justin</ins> LePera<ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">, M</ins>att <ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50">M</ins>eyerson and<ins cite="file://localhost/mid/Unknown20130115T074829855" datetime="2013-01-15T08:50"> Jer</ins>emiah Kraus.
