FULL MOON WEEKEND IN VENICE

The full moon crazies are out in force. Ryan Tate is the first to show up after a long week of work on the new Kreper video ‘Kreep Show’. As we walked outside toward the Venice Breakwater we met up with Pete Ruiz and Jesse Martinez on their way to the skate spot where The Core Tour had invaded Venice for the weekend with lots of tents and banners… Jesse Martinez made his own Venice Boys banner space for the event. Past the circus tents is the Venice oasis of art. New art every day. The walls and tabletops buried in the sand are what remains from the Venice Pavilion. It’s actually legal to paint here thanks to a grassroots effort to make the walls a permanent artistic display area in Venice. When we got back to the Juice office, Johnny Manak and The Cliftons had arrived on their way to a gig at Heavy Metal Chuck’s birthday party in Redondo Beach. And The Cliftons brought ribs… The story goes something like this… They played a gig, got stiffed on the pay but ‘;found’; 70lbs of Danish ribs on their way out of the club. The Cliftons rock! The sun went down and The Full Moon Fest in Marina Del Rey was on. There was a fire-breathing runway show and great art… The show’s coordinator – Mina from Minawear – promoting the use of hemp. Here’s Matt Benware and his art. He’s moved from the self-created art gallery in his apartment to this group art show. We thought Derek Bellman just hung around the coffee shop all day but we were wrong. With a mix of digital photos and layers of paint, the effect is surreal. Nice work. The crazy thing about the Moonfest party is the cops came and shut down the party while Jeff Ho was bartending. Question is, ‘What did Ho do with all that rum?’ The Zephyr display – beach break fish model – three fin design for small waves individually airbrushed with metal flake paint and candy apple colors by Jeff Ho. Then it was time for punk rock at the Good Hurt. N9 – ‘Totally worth it.’ The Full Moon crazy part of this party was that the club owner had double booked the club with a hip hop show and a punk rock show at the same time. The 100+ punk rockers quickly convinced the club owner that the punk rock show would go on. VSA commando, GerI Lewis, let the mob in for free and then stirred up the pit. The place was out of control by the end of the 2nd song. Mark has the best O.G. D.T. slam style. The lil’ homeys. Davon, Little Nicky, Little Richard and Aarec Baker handle business. The first N-9 show, that almost wasn’t, became another memorable chapter in D.T. history. Classic punk rock mayhem. A perfect full moon weekend in Venice.<\/p>\n
