BROOKLYN SKATEPARK CONTEST

It was time for an annual Winter contest at The Brooklyn Skate Park, John Carter aka JC had just taken over the park formally called X-ramps. Local Pros Pat Smith from 5 Boro and Bobby Puleo (Enjoi) had been up late the night before making additions to a new section of the street course. To this day, I still have liquid nail crap all over my back pack and jacket from their work bench. About the contest… in the beginners division, Gabe Ventura ripped in practice with dare devil attacks, but in the contest he came down with a case of jello legs. Gen Lennard took a couple of spills but put it together in the end. Robert Lanfranchi followed in his dad’s footsteps (skateboarding), but was magnetically drawn off the side of the ramp more than once. Cory Switzer was next on the spine ramp doing a hang up revert and squeezed in a kick flip on the bottom. Gabe Gomez hit the street course with ollies off the pyramid and rail slides. Sky Nadel is about as tall as his board. He poped some air, slid and stalled out, flowed all over the spine. In the Intermediate division, Abed Abed screwed up a bunch. Better luck next time. Shane Prefi got racked on the street course, but survived. Tony Soto flowed with smith grinds on the spine and boardslides off the spine. Taylor Jones won the beginner’s division last year and got second this time. Taylor showed us how to skate the big mini. Carlos Torbio skated the spine and street course with style and grace and walked away with first place. In Expert we had three Albright Brothers and Keven Fitzbibbon. Keven utilized the street course going high on the vert wall and doing sliders on the rail frontside and backside. John Albright had the mean tail slides and big ollie lipslides to fakie overt the spine. Congratz to Scott Albright with his new born son. John slid a lot of grinds to fakie over the spine and frontside alley oop 5\/0s Mike Albright went for the big frontside airs off the extention. Thanks to the trophy girls Mesha and Marta, JC, all our sponsors that sent in prizes. Bootleg, Santa Cruz, Black Label, Ricta weels, Indy, Monster trucks, Enjoi and Gringo.
