JAY ADAMS got married this past weekend on Saturday May 14th on the beach in Waimea Bay in Hawaii. Congrats to Jay and Alisha Adams! Wounded Knee’s best selling deck, the WK Sitting Bull is a favorite among East Coast hardcores. Thanks again to Vans who flew Murf out from NYC for the Pro-Tec Bowl Bash. Murf had a great time! Back on the East Coast, the recent 5.9% party in Attleboro was rained out but the party still raged on. Big Tim, Bato, Sloppy, Murf, Merk and the whole crew showed up with appropriate party antics.

In the Hybrid race the following day Chris Barker took the win for PPS with Mitchell taking the overall for the weekend and all the cash. Kenny Mollica who is no stranger to being on top of the podium took top honors in the Athens GS, Kenny road barefoot all day and smoked everyone! Wicked Wahine is excited to mix the two worlds of skateboarding and surfing at one of the premier surf/skate locations. The Cuatro Casas Surf Hostel, located just 2 hours south of Ensenada, is the home of top notch surfing and a one-of-kind pool designed specifically for skateboarding. FREE FLOW TOUR – The Dew Action Sports Tour announced the kickoff of the Free Flow Tour, the official amateur series of the Dew Action Sports Tour. A grassroots amateur skateboard and BMX park contest series, the Free Flow Tour will bring jam-style contests to 15 communities across the country. The Free Flow Tour begins May 15 at the Vans Skatepark in Moorestown, NJ. The Free Flow Tour will include skate competitions at 15 sites and BMX competitions at seven sites. The top skate and BMX finishers at each stop will be flown to the Dew Action Sports Tour’s Vans Invitational in Portland, OR, for the Free Flow Tour Finals, where one champion will be crowned in each sport. Each overall champion will win a wild card spot to compete against the pros at the Dew Action Sports Tour’s last stop, the PlayStation Pro in Orlando, FL. The Free Flow Tour Road Crew, all accomplished skaters and BMX riders, will drive a Toyota Tundra and Free Flow Tour Trailer to retail shops and skate and BMX spots throughout the country to hang, skate and ride with local kids. The Road Crew will distribute giveaways and spread the word about the Free Flow Tour and the Dew Action Sports Tour. Following each contest, there will be a post-event party where event attendees can receive autographs from visiting professional action sports athletes, free gear and much more. This concert is testament that DEVO was a brilliant live act. This DVD includes a full length concert from 1980 supporting their breakthrough album Freedom of Choice. This is DEVO at their very peak. Although hard to fathom nowadays, there was a time when there was no MTV. In fact, rock music visuals on TV were usually delegated strictly to the weekend, when you had to burn the midnight oil to catch Saturday Night Live, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, the Midnight Special, or Friday’s. And mostly, it was either straight-ahead live performance footage, or else blah lip-synched stuff, with the musicians playing to an empty arena on the afternoon of a show. This all changed with DEVO. It’s becoming rare nowadays for full-length shows to have survived from this era, but that’s what this DVD is all about – a full-length live set, just as Whip It was beginning to make DEVO a household word. SURF SHOP SHOWDOWN SURF CONTEST RESULTS – San Luis Obispo surf-product manufacturer, Poorboy USA, held their inaugural Surf Shop Showdown May 21, 2005 at Morro Rock. Local shop teams, consisting of 3 employees, battled it out in The Rock’s 4-6 ft. windy conditions for the bragging rights of the Central Coast’s best surfing staff. Other Central Coast manufacturers – Azhiaziam Clothing, Video Action Sports, and Guayaki Yerba Mate – supported the event, which raised scholarship money for Morro Bay Rec Dept’s summer surf school. Local knowledge paid off as Morro Bay Surf Company dueled Wavelengths Surf Shop, also of Morro Bay, in the final. When the scores were totaled, it was MBSC just grazing the Wavelengths posse thanks to their impressive double-whammy wave claimed by shop owner Anthony Randazzo. The perpetual Poorboy Horse’s Skull trophy will hang at Morro Bay Surf Company until it’s up for grabs again next year. In the Open division, Dustin Ray shot down more than 20 other hungry competitors and took home $150 loot for his efforts. All finalists received prize bags full of Poorboy traction, leashes, wax and apparel, Azhiaziam threads, V.A.S. Surf DVDs and more. ASP WORLD TOUR UPDATE – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) and FUEL TV have signed a three-year deal securing exclusive USA and select international rights to televise the ASP’s Foster’s Men’s World Tour and the Women’s ASP World Championship Tour. Often deemed the ‘Dream Tour,’ the professional surfing circuit is a 12-stop pilgrimage that couples the world’s best surfers with the world’s best surf breaks. From the exotic locales of Tahiti and Fiji to the time-honored breaks of Bells Beach and Pipeline, the top 45 surfers circumnavigate the globe battling it out for prize money, bragging rights and ultimately a World Title. NSL ANNOUNCES 2nd ANNUAL QUIKSILVER CALIFORNIA CUP DATES – Building on the explosive debut of the California Cup in 2004 and a groundbreaking partnership with ESPN’s X Games X, The National Surf League is pleased to announce the dates for the 2005 Quiksilver California Cup. Starting on April 6th in Santa Cruz, CA, the 2005 Quiksilver California Cup will showcase 100 of California’s top surfers competing on five regional teams. The teams will face off in five events, which take place in five different locations in California (Ventura, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County), over a six-week time period. The whole competition is based on a revolutionary format called THE GAME. Founded by National Surf League president, Brad Gerlach, and his father, Jumpin’ Joe Gerlach, THE GAME is loosely based on the NBA (4 quarters) and Golf’s Ryder Cup (team based golf). The result is a unique competitive environment that creates the hometown pride in each team’s local community and intense team and regional rivalries that are missing from current professional tours. The teams compete in four ‘home’ and four ‘away’ games, balancing the playing field during the month and a half-long season. The teams consist of 20 competitors (8 starters, 4 subs and 8 second string), with head, assistant and in-water coaches. Eight players per team count their two highest scores. One score in the first half and one score in the second. The team with the highest cumulative score after four quarters wins ‘THE GAME’. This year, each team will debut its own team name and icon.
