CALL TO ARMS – – SKATECOLORADO RAMP RIP – From: ‘Bruce Adams’ – bruce@skatecolorado.com – “That’s right folks, right after I signed the lease for one more year, and we gave the ramp Facelift # 5 and a fresh coat of paint, Boulder County has decided to shut us down. The ‘skatepark, lights, trash pile, vehicles, parties and ‘skate-meets’ as they call them, all must stop by July 6th or I get large fines that compile daily until I comply. ‘Happy Birthday America’…in the land where McDonalds has a skateboard as their logo, where Tony Hawk is more popular than Micheal Jordan….”

SKATECOLORADO RAMP The dumpster arrived today for all the trash, I need a lot of help, so all you maggots that never paid a red cent to help out with this project over the last 5 years, should pay your dues to the ‘SkateGods’ and help out. The second dumpster for the ramp arrives July 8th for the rest of the structure. So while everyone’s out celebrating July 4th, my vacation plans have been cancelled, I’ll be here, wearing Black…. tearing down one of the best places to ever skate in Colorado. If you would like to participate, please feel free to call me at 720-276-2474 or email me. We only have until the 6th of July to skate legally so come and get your licks and pics. We need chainsaws, sawzaws, muscle, bandaids, alotta BEER, chics, food, and whatever else it takes to tear down a ramp the size of the house! There will be a HUGE party, art show, photogallery, dvd premier, WAKE, and a coffin… after it’s all said and done, perhaps at the Darkhorse again. Art, photography, stories, poems, etc will be displayed…. From: ‘Bruce Adams’ Email bruce@skatecolorado.com.

FUNDRAISER FOR NEW SKATEPARK – Skatepark of Baltimore Foundation will host a banked slalom and bowl jam at Landsdowne Sk8park on Sept. 3, 2005. The Skatepark of Baltimore is a non-profit organization made up of local skaters, community activists and public officals all dedicated to bringing a world class skatepark to Baltimore City, MD. We want our park to be free for all riders, open 24 hours a day, and have no pad requirements. The city of Baltimore spent $250.000 2 years ago and ended up with 10,000 sq. foot park with a broom finish, backwards layout, lumpy transitions and noping. We will not allow this to happen again. To donate or get involved go to www.Skateparkofbaltimore.com or send donations or product for the fundraisers to Skatepark of Baltimore Foundation c/o Chris Renner 2933 Carrollton Rd. Jason’s family, friends (many of whom are living legends in diverse fields) and associates weave a riveting narrative on a truly fascinating, self-invented man. Jason’s halting language and dozens of interviews from those who know him best and worst unveil themes of suicide, Jesus, success, failure, chickens, excommunication, bankruptcy, and love. The diversity of the interviewees in the film is staggering, as is their contribution to modern California culture – Jason’s true love. The pace is frenetic, covering disparate topics like a train wreck… telling Jason’s story in the same manner he lives it. Featuring Christian Hosoi, Christian Fletcher, Jay Adams. You can hear THE NEEDLES on Los Angeles, CA radio station Indie 103.1FM – recently voted by Rolling Stone magazine as ‘America’s coolest commercial radio station.’ Here are just a few of the reviews of THE NEEDLES. ‘They play rock music. They play it fast. They play it loud. Rocked out punk with attitude.’ – VILLAGE VOICE…. ‘Easily the best punk lead guitar I’ve heard on here, this is some rockin’ shit. I hear both the So-Cal punk influence and the BIG AC/DC type rock influence, and it works together REALLY well here. The vocals really stand out as well. The production fits this song like a glove, with the big guitar crunch and a near perfect mix. The performance is tight as hell. Sometimes I get really tired of having to do reviews, but then something like this comes along and totally blows me away.’ – GARAGEBAND.COM…. ‘Talk about smokin’ live shows! North Carolina’s THE NEEDLES just rolled through town and blew a few doors off before headin’ out. Total energy, these guys kick out guitar-laden power punk rock and ain’t afraid to make fun of the sissies in the front row. Something in the vein of the Candy Snatchers for an unadulterated blast. SAN PEDRO PUNK ART SHOW – History of San Pedro Punk Curated by Marshall Astor Exhibition June 26th- Jul 31st, 2005 at Angels Gate Cultural Center… Since the earliest punk movements of the 1970s, San Pedro’s scene had a style uniquely its own. Beginning in 1979 with the groundbreaking sound of the Reactionaries, members of which moved on to form the iconic and genre defining Minutemen in 1980, to the South Bay punk of the 90’s, San Pedro has been a punk stronghold for 25 years. Now, nearly a generation later, the subculture still rocks as a significant source of energy in the Harbor area. In 2005, elements of this energetic community can be found building the Channel Street Skate Park, in careers in the arts–such as the founding the San Pedro City Ballet–and a hundred other success stories. Original artwork, music, photos, posters, memorabilia and video clips spanning a quarter century of punkdom is being brought together from the personal archives of local artists and musicians for the first time by curator Marshall Astor. The exhibition will feature a timeline with the events, people and venues – including Union Club, The Dancing Waters, Sacred Grounds Coffee House, and the recent San Pedro skate park – which make the scene what it is today. Featured visual artists: Lena Orlando, Craig Ibarra, Martin Lyon, Aaron White, Scott Aicher, Chet Zar, Kevin Salk and Andy Harris and more. Bands featured in exhibited recordings and videos include The Reactionaries, Minutemen, Invisiblechains, The Wigs, Dos, fIREHOSE, Skinhorse, One Thin Dime, Rig, F.Y.P., Melting Pot, No Comply, The Leeches, F.C.P., The Jag-Offs, Toys That Kill, Killer Dreamer, and many more. Opening reception: June 26th, 2005, 2-4 pm. Musical performance by The Leeches and others. All events free and open to the public. Angels Gate Cultural Center, 3601 S. Gaffey St., San Pedro, CA 90731 Info: 310.519.0936, or visit www.angelsgateart.org

JULIETTE LEWIS: VH1′s ‘(inside) OUT,’ a half-hour documentary/reality show, will air June 15 at 10 p.m. EST and follow Lewis from film set to rock stage as front woman for her band, JULIETTE AND THE LICKS. Juliette and the Licks’ full-length debut album, YOU’RE SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE (Fiddler Records), saw its U.S. debut May 17. The story picks up in Tennessee, on the set of ‘Daltry Calhoun,’ where Lewis leaves the movie trailer for a tour bus. It follows her to the Voodoo Music Experience in Louisiana, and although she nearly misses her own performance due to a desperate dash to a faraway Porta Potty, she finally grabs hold of the mic and blazes through a jaw-dropping set. She even stage-dives across a sea of touchy-feely fans — much to the horror of her road manager. The tension heats up as Lewis prepares for the album release and the story follows her and the band through the frantic weeks leading up it. She takes on the skeptical critics, thrashes through a music video, performs with the Licks on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ and finishes with an intimate show for close friends and family at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Lewis is currently in Vancouver shooting ‘Catch and Release’ (Sony Pictures), co-starring Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant. For more www.julietteandthelicks.com

CHRISTIAN FLETCHER NEWS – Following the excitement and interest instigated by Christian’s recent whirlwind trip to Australia, Christian Fletcher and Insight Int’l HQ Australia have joined forces: Fletcher, who was recently named one of Surfer Magazine’s top 16 most influential surfers of all time, unquestionably represents the ethos of the traditional underground surfing/skating lifestyle. Californian based Fletcher, whom revolutionized the once conservative surfing movement back in the late 1980s by amalgamating skating maneuvers to surfing, and in turn adopting a modern approach to the mainstream culture. Initially being shunned by contest directors and professional surfers for being part of a unique echelon of the surfing community, he was ostracized by the surfing media. Despite Fletcher’s long list of set backs, he infamously influenced the direction of the entire surfing lifestyle and has later become one of aerial surfing’s legendary greats.
