Vans Pool Party is set for May 5 and this looks to be the last Pool Party that will ever be hosted at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, CA, and word has it that the skatepark will close down permanently at the end of 2018. The Skateboarding Hall of Fame is set for May 4 at the City National Grove of Anaheim, California. Voting began this week to nominate the 2018 inductees. The Skateboarding Hall of Fame Executive Committee members are Jim Muir, Lance Mountain, Steve Olson, David Hackett, Laura Thornhill-Caswell, Glen Friedman, Todd Huber and Thomas Barker. The list of nominees was made by using the tallied results of a vote by the Skateboarding Hall of Fame Nomination Committee, input from the Skateboarding Hall of Fame Executive Committee and last years voting results. Voting closes at midnight on February 16th, so expect announcements of the 2018 Skateboarding Hall of Fame inductees to be made shortly after. DOGTOWN GOES TO HOLLYWOOD – Scott Oster put together an epic event for the launch of a new collaboration between Dogtown X Adaptation at Maxfield in West Hollywood last week. A brand new full pipe designed by Scott Oster for the party and built by Eddie Reategui and the Daggerbuilt Ramp crew was constructed, skated and dismantled in less than two weeks, so if ya didn’t get a chance to skate it, you can check out the upcoming issue of Juice Magazine for photos and the rest of the story. TONY HAWK FOUNDATION NEWS – The new skatepark in Morganton, North Carolina is the 540th THF-supported skatepark to open. The only concrete skatepark for miles around, the flowy Pillar Designs/Artisan Skateparks creation has essentially become the local park for skaters throughout Blake County. A town of only 17,000 residents, Morganton received a grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation in 2017, but the community moved fast and completed their fundraising in time to build and open their park before year’s end. JOSH MONIZ WINS 2018 VOLCOM PIPE PRO IN PERFECT 8-12 FT SURF AT THE BANZAI PIPELINE ON OAHU’S NORTH SHORE. the Banzai Pipeline delivered-up double to triple overhead, spitting barrels for the final day of the Pipe Pro. in the Final Heat, Josh fought a tight battle against former Pipe Pro Champion Jamie O’Brien, who scored a perfect 10 point ride midway through the heat. With only minutes to go Josh dropped into a large outside peak and disappeared into a deep barrel, scoring an 8.83 from the judges. Combined with his earlier score for a total of 17.56, it was just enough to beat O’Brien’s combined score of 17.43, pushing O’Brien into 2nd place.
