For the first time ever, clothing from skateboarding's most popular brands is available to kids ranging from ages three months to six years. A recently launched website -LittleRuler.com-- is the only place to find clothing for infants and toddlers from brands like Independent Truck Company, Santa Cruz Skateboards, Powell, Thrasher, Vans, Skateboarding Is Not a Crime, Santa Monica Airlines and more. Little Ruler was founded by Jeff Kendall and his wife Maureen. Jeff, a professional skateboarder in the mid to late '80's who sold more than 100,000 of his pro models over the course of his career, is also the director of marketing for NHS (skateboard manufacturer and distributor). 'A good percentage 6 million plus skaters of the 80's generation have or are having kids. Seeing our kids in the custom skate stuff we've had made in the past and seeing the reactions of others made us realize something needed to be done,' said Jeff. 'It's so nice to open my kids' clothing drawers and see them dominated by a bunch of skate t's!' Maureen is a stay-at-home mom of their two children and runs the day-to-day operations from their San Jose, Calif. home. Skateboard industry leaders are praising Little Ruler for its authenticity, timing and recognition of a neglected and untapped market. Little Ruler products are available at http://www.littleruler.com
ETNIES NEWS For Immediate Release - SANTA SKATES, TOO! etnies Distributes 500 Pairs of New Shoes to Needy Orange County Kids at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest Santa, Mrs. Claus, their friendly elves and Pierre Andre Senizergues, owner and CEO of etnies, will bring holiday cheer to the needy children of Orange County by hosting a Holiday Festival complete with Christmas crafts, a pro skate demo, food and more. Plus, each child will receive a brand-new pair of etnies shoes just in time for Christmas. The shoe donation and Holiday Festival will be held on Friday, December 17, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in celebration of the 1st Anniversary of the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest. Nearly 1,500 youth use the park each week. Pro skateboarders scheduled to appear include Arto Saari, Rune Glifberg, Ryan Sheckler, Justin Eldridge, Lance Mountain and more. Several Orange County non-profit organizations will bring children, from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club (Westminster and Garden Grove), Human Options (domestic violence shelter in Irvine) and Olive Crest (foster / adoption agency in Santa Ana). 'We're excited about the success of the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest,' Senizergues reflects. 'I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to give youth of all ages, who may otherwise not have a happy holiday season, a chance to see Santa Claus, watch our pro skateboarders and receive a brand new pair of etnies. The skatepark is about giving back to the community, and we're doing just that with our Holiday Festival and shoe donations this year! With strong community input and support, etnies and the City of Lake Forest worked to create a world-class skatepark facility designed for the youth of Orange County. Using a public/private partnership to help offset the costs by more than 25%, etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest is currently one of the nation's largest. Initially, Senizergues made a generous donation to the City of Lake Forest to offset costs and make the skatepark free of charge for all guests during its first year of operation. As an early Christmas gift, and in acknowledgement of a successful first year, Senizergues will make another substantial donation to keep the skatepark free of charge for yet another year. ASR NEWS - Snow Showers in the Forecast for ASR this January in San Diego - Major action sports manufacturers show snow, including a first look at Volcom Snow and Burton bringing soft goods to the floor... - As the world's premier action sports trade show, ASR is a retailer's one stop to find surf, skate, swim, street and even snow this January 14th to 16th in San Diego. The biggest brands in surf and skate continue to branch into snow responding to loyal customers who participate in more than one action sport in the growing $2.28 billion snowboard industry. According to Board-Trac, the crossover in participation between skate and surf and snowboarding is 50%. Many brands at ASR address this crossover and produce product for the snowboard market including apparel, boots, goggles, luggage, accessories, and hard goods. 'Established brands have branched into surf, skate and snow and specialty shops are carrying crossover products for all 3 sports,' says Kevin Flanagan, ASR Show Director. 'So it is natural that ASR, as the leading action sports trade show, offers a full spectrum of action sports products that mirror our audience's interests and lifestyle.' Board-Trac's 2003 survey clearly shows the crossover between sports, finding 47% of skateboarders and 50% of surfers surveyed also snowboard. Additionally, it finds that participation in snowboarding has jumped from 7.96 million in 2001 to 9.9 million just two years later. Retail shops are trying to hold customers year-round and many specialty shops who focus on one action sport are also looking to bring in products that will keep a customer loyal from season to season. 'To survive, retailers have to be multi-sport and expand the market from within and beyond the industry,' says Roy Turner, President of the Board Retailers Association. 'Having snowboarding product at ASR is the perfect addition.' For additional information regarding ASR check out www.asrbiz.com.
