Jon Holland has captured the essence of the Z-Flex crew, in a two part mini-doc featuring a cast of some of your favorite skate characters. ZVP will also be releasing a series of iconic fiberglass decks, based on the original molds developed by Jay Sherwood, J-Boy’s step-dad to coincide with the release of the ZVP mini-doc. – WORDS BY DAN LEVY“It was a radical time… it was a ground breaking time in skateboarding”- Marty Grimes (1st Generation Z-Flex rider)
Z-Flex Skateboards is proud to present Z-Flex Vintage Premium (ZVP) and take a journey back to where it all began in “The Beginning”.
Z-Flex, born in 1976, is one of the longest running skateboard brands in history and celebrates this with a re-issue of the original fiberglass Z-Flex boards and a two part mini-documentary series filmed and edited by legendary skateboard filmer, Jon Holland.
The two part mini-documentary series is a reflection of the beginning of skateboarding told through the eyes of the legends that pioneered what we know as skateboarding today. Jay Adams, Tony Alva, Duane Peters, Marty Grimes and Jimmy Plumer (to name a few) join moderator for the day – Steve Olson – to reminisce on a time period and a story so many have tried to tell. Reflecting on style, spots, products, and the radical nature of the Z-Flex team, the two part series takes you back in time and retells the popular story of growing up and skating Dog Town from the guys who lived it.
To accompany the mini-series, Z-Flex has created the ZVP category and re-issued the iconic fiberglass boards, first made by Kent Sherwood (Jay Adams’ step-dad) in the 1970’s. The re-issue boards include four models: The Original, Jay Adams, Warptail, and Jimmy Plumer. Each board comes in a numbered collectors display box with an authentic Z-Flex bandana and commemorative booklet. Only 300 units of each model will be made and sold worldwide.
