If there is a contest to ever watch it’s this one, the Vans Pool Party at the Combi. Juice Magazine loaned me a camera and I didn’t break it! Phew… Seeing young kids skate that pool as hard as they did was humbling to say the least. Watching the old dogs skate, it was an eye opener… totally fluid never a wasted motion. It was fully inspiring. The finals in the event were mind blowing. These guys skated their hearts out and it was unreal! This is real skateboarding. To finish off the event, it was back-to-back transfers by Pedro Barros and Matt Boyston. If they had hung up, they would have been completely wrecked… white rhino ball sacks on these guys. All I can say is what a total honor. Thank you Vans, Terri Craft, Dan Levy, Jim Murphy, Shawn Smith, Andy Kessler, Jeff Ho, Erika Ritacco and all my old friends I ran into. From the bottom of my heart, much thanks. Now go rip something up.

The Vans Pool Party celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary with ultimate style and class. The bowl skating competition, on May 16, 2015 at the Vans Skatepark in Orange, California, was heated and the crowd went ballistic as the concrete warriors took to the coping and all walls of the famous Combi bowl. 15-year-old young gun, Tom Schaar took first place in the Pro division with annihilator, Chris Russell, bringing home second place and Brazilian powerhouse, Pedro Barros, scooping up third. In the Masters division, the purely radical, Bruno Passos, claimed first place, while Stephen Revord came in second and Darren Navarrette took third. In the Legends’ division, the reigning champ, once again, was the unstoppable Chris Miller, with the legendary Steve Caballero in second place and a well-deserved third place for the indomitable, Eric Nash. As the contest came to a close, Steve Van Doren offered up a $5,000 bonus for the first bowl to bowl transfers, which Pedro Barros accomplished first, followed closely by Matt Boyster, bringing the whole place to its feet in screaming appreciation. It was a jam-packed day of pure skateboarding with the always good feeling of an extended skate family reunion. Thanks to Vans for all the years of supporting bowl skating, and thanks to all the skateboarders for their relentless blood, sweat and monster grinds and lines. Cheers to all!
