The Jay Adams Book Kickstarter Campaign

The Jay Adams Book

A tribute to the legendary Jay Adams. A life lived, loved, surfed, skated, hated, prayed, created, destroyed, died & reborn.

PRESS RELEASE:

Osiris Shoes announces the “Jay Adams” book | A life lived, loved, surfed, skated, hated, prayed, created, destroyed, died & reborn; A tribute to the legendary Jay Adams.

The Jay Adams book is the first comprehensive, rigorously annotated, and definitive collection of Jay Adams memoirs, stories and photographs to be published. It grew out of an unprecedented collaboration over many years between Jay’s friends and legendary skateboarders Tony Magnusson and David Hackett and a team of contributing photographers that have captured “The original seed” through the years. From early Z Boy photos by C.R. Stecyk III and Glen Friedman to later photographs by Osiris’ Hans Molenkamp.

David Hackett comments: “Working on The Jay Book is going to take some time to do it right and create something that I know Jay would have approved of and be stoked on! This book will cover not only the obvious sides of the Jay Boy we all came to know, love and admire through the many decades of photos and footage, but more importantly the sides of him that you didn’t know unless you were a close friend, cohort or pro surfer or skateboarder. We have some stories that have NEVER been told that are going to BLOW minds and make The Jay Book a must have for any and every Jay Adams fan or surf and skate enthusiast!”

With over five decades of skateboarding and surfing infused in his soul, Jay Adams paved the way for modern skateboarding through his radical approach to life and his fiercely rebellious attitude. Jay was also a very loving father and family man that would do anything to protect those around him. His faith in Jesus helped him through many dark times and ultimately saved his life. The book will feature a 360 degree view of perspectives from his son, Seven Adams, and his wife, Tracy Hubbard Adams, along with stories and testimonies from Jay’s closest friends, family and people he influenced over the years.

“Having known Jay Adams for over a decade, I can’t think of a more important book on a person that represents the independent spirit of skateboarding that I’d want to have and read. I know that his legacy needs to not only be preserved for generations to come but be easily accessible to all and told by many people.  It’s a tall order and me and the Hackman are ready to take it on.” said Tony Mag

The estimated 350-page book will be available for purchase in the fall of 2015, a KICKSTARTER campaign has been launched. The campaign will give everyone an opportunity to help contribute and build this legendary piece of skateboarding and surfing history. There are multiple, limited edition and unlimited pledge packages set up so that you can be part of this legendary project.  Osiris Shoes, along with Z-Flex, Black Flys and some of Jay’s other sponsors who supported him over the years, have helped put together limited and exclusive pieces that will be available through the Kickstarter campaign. Included in the contribution will be a 50% off discount code at osirisshoes.com

“After Jay’s passing, Dave Hackett & Tony Mag, with the help of Seven Adams, the Venice Beach surf/skate brotherhood and Dogtown, set out on the difficult path of writing a book that covers all of Jay Adams’ life, not only as the original seed of skateboarding and the Dogtown culture, but also the man of faith, the husband, the father and a person that touched so many lives in so many different walks of life. Jay Adams was a renaissance man in the most profound sense. He invented the concept of 100% Skateboarder, a philosophy in which he practiced in every aspect of his life. Est. 350 pages. Available Holiday 2015.
