Movements have many roots, but there is always a seed before they sprout. In U.K. punk, that seed was The Damned. Not only were they the first to pump out a single on vinyl, but they were also the first to cross the Atlantic and tour the U.S., inspiring millions with singles like “Love Song” and who could forget Machine Gun Etiquette, not to mention their NINE (9) singles that hit the U.K. Top 40, catapulting punk to national popularity and international recognition.
The Damned Documentary: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead trailer
With this roster of accomplishments, it’s no surprise filmmaker, Wes Orshoski, decided to bring The Damned story to life in his new documentary The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead. The film features appearances from Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jones (The Clash), Lemmy and members of Pink Floyd, Black Flag, GNR, the Sex Pistols, Blondie, Buzzcocks, and more.
Shot around the globe over three years, the film charts the band’s complex history and infighting, as it celebrated its 35th anniversary and found its estranged former members striking out on their own anniversary tour…
The film will debut at the SXSW Film Festival in Texas on March 20th.
