On the anniversary of 9/11, Rob Dydrek hosted and organized a gathering of skaters taking a new outlook on skateboarding being supported by skaters and its own sponsors, The Air Force was a bit far fetched I must say, Monster Energy, Yeah those guys have done quite a bit for the sport, but with everyone there no matter who you are, you are helping to support skateboarding. Times since 9/11 have changed. Rob Dydrek has done this event quite well with 4 sections to challenge each skater and each skater has 7 tries for tricks on each section. Six skaters competed for the final heat, When I first arrived, I watched Tommy Sandoval throw down the best trick with a broken board. No points for the fall, but on his next try on a borrowed board, he stuck what he missed to get the highest score with that trick, 6.8. He still missed out on the finals that had these skaters competing for the $150,000 first prize, Chris Cole, Greg Lutzka, Paul Rodriguez, Sean Malto, Nyjah Houston, Ryan Sheckler and Chaz Ortiz were the ones selected for the finals. When the all sections where completed and the final runs where close to being done, Chaz Ortiz was in the lead and he only had to make his last trick on the Big Rail section to claim the win, but he fell giving the win to Sean Malto. The next Street League event will be on Sept 25th in Las Vegas. Lets see what happens next for Rob Dydrek and his Street League crew. Thanks to DD for keeping the Daggers sharp and keeping skating supporting those that appreciate it… – Joaquin ‘The Machine’
