Skinned Alive Premiere 11/06/04 ‘Skateboarding and art both share a fundamental freedom that most of society lacks and desires.’ – Shelter Serra.

Artists and skaters from Nor Cal to So Cal showed scars and ink at Zen Sushi in Silverlake, CA for the premiere of Bart Saric’s documentary ‘Skinned Alive’. The film is a non-exploitive look into the lives of some of the world’s most talented tattoo artists and the one of a kind skateboarders who canvas their impressions. Bart showed the audience a side of the artists and skaters that was voyeuristically raw and unrehearsed, making you feel how personal working the needles and grinding coping can be. Looking inside the lines of Neil Heddings, Jason Jessee, Jesse Martinez, Eric Dressen, Steve and Art Godoy, Bill Danforth, Fred Smith, Mark Mahoney, Tim Hendrix, Danny Romo and more, Bart had an uncanny consistency of keeping it real and undeniable. The feeling of the film resonated into the after party as the vibe was respectful and ready to explode at the same time. The Highway Murderers took stage first and killed it while the likes of Eric Dressen, Jason Jessee, Terri Craft, Tim Dowling, Chris Ortiz, The Automodown crew, Steve and Art Godoy, The Tour Villes, Patrick Melcher, ADHD, Jimmy The Greek, Heidi Fitzgerald, Slappy, Don Fisher, Jeff Greenwood, DJ Cesar, Bennett Harada, Stephanie Limb, Ryan Tate, Kelly Jackson, Lance Lemond, Sonja Caudill, Cholo from Scum and more partied into the night. ADHD came on next after canceling a show in Arizona to play the gig. The Hell City Rockers headed by Carter Falco opened Hell’s gates and left the lights on even after the party had ended. Congrats go out to Bart Saric and Tom Allen for making this film a reality. This film should be seen by anyone who rides a board or has ink in their skin. For those of you who are reading this, don’t forget to write to Neil Heddings, Leave no soldiers behind. He needs your support as much as you need his. www.martyforever.com
