FCC FINES CBS $550,000: Janet Jackson’s breast causes largest FCC fine in history… CBS was hit Wednesday with a roundhouse right from the FCC, which voted unanimously to bestow a $550,000 fine on 20 CBS-owned television stations for airing Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction. Each of the 20 stations was fined $27,500, however, the commission decided not to fine CBS’ more than 200 affiliate stations, which also aired the show but are not owned by the network’s parent company, Viacom. The total $550,000 penalty is the largest fine levied against a television broadcaster. Viacom has said it will fight any fines leveled against its stations for the Jackson performance. Over the summer, Viacom co-president Leslie Moonves said a fine would be ‘grossly unfair’ and promised a court challenge. For details go to: www.EURweb.com

EMERICA SHOE DRIVE – Emerica Helps Protect the Feet of Underprivileged Youth in Phoenix… Emerica is not just about skateboarding — it’s about giving back to those who are less fortunate — whether on or off a skateboard. On August 21, 2004, in Tempe, Arizona, Emerica did just that by donating 100 pairs of shoes to the First Annual Shoe Drive for underprivileged kids in the Phoenix area. The goal was to raise over 1,000 pairs of shoes to help prepare kids for back-to-school! Salvation Skates Stores asked for additional help from the community to donate their old shoes. In return, they received a $10 gift certificate for their next shoe purchase at any Salvation Skates Stores location. Communities in Schools of Arizona, a non-profit organization was on hand to distribute all donations within partnering Valley schools. For more visit www.emericaskate.com
