Milwaukee: home of Pabst and the legendary Turf Skate Park also known as Surf N Turf. On April 10, 2009, the Vetter Denk building in Milwaukee played host to ‘Salad Days’, showcasing the photography of Peter DiAntoni, celebrating the 30 year anniversary of the legendary skate park. WMSE’s DJ, Eric Von Munz, supplied the thrash and skate metal through out the night, while Sky High Skate Shop screen printed Turf t-shirts which were half off with a Turf ID. The Turf was built in 1979 and stayed open for about four years, until it became a strip club. Then in 1987, the legendary skatepark re-opened and became so popular that you had to make reservations. Santa Cruz’s Streets of Fire filmed a portion at the Turf and the Bones Brigade made the voyage as well as most every pro at the time, all before it closed in the mid ’90s. The beer was flowing and the music was right on. Santa Cruz and Van’s provided raffle items while Red Dot supplied the food; everyone was enjoying the atmosphere. Phase II also played a nice part helping out as a sponsor. I can’t say enough about Peter’s photography, as it really took you back to the old days. All in all, it was a great night thanks to all of the people that made it possible. – Words by Shaun Nadolny – Lucky Lily Studios
