PITCHFORK MUSIC FESTIVAL 2012

The Pitchfork Music Festival is coming up on July 13-15 at Chicago’s Union Park. Single Day passes are available for $45/day. Full Schedule for all three days is below. To purchase tickets and for more information on the 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival, visit www.pitchforkmusicfestival.com.

This year, the festival is introducing new activities and sights for attendees to enjoy, including Book Fort, art installations by Johalla Projects, and new food vendors. Onsite lockers will be available for the first time ever, allowing attendees to rent them throughout the weekend. And they have a new rideshare program for those looking to carpool. Info about all of this and more is below.

FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES

BOOK FORT
Heralded for its innovative publications, Chicago-based Featherproof Books is the perfect host for this year’s PMF Book Fort. Armed with literary ammo and manned by some of the most dangerous minds in indie publishing, the Book Fort offers attendees the chance to learn about up-and-coming young writers, leaf through books hot-off-the-presses, and find your book club’s next read. Plus, panel discussions and readings will contribute to the festival’s stimulating creative atmosphere. Vendors at Book Fort include Featherproof Books, McSweeneys, Drag City Books, Write Bloody, The Paper Cave/Green Lantern Press, MAKE Magazine, Publishing Genius, Poetry Magazine, and the 33 1/3 music book series from Continuum.

CHIRP RECORD FAIR
From the beginning, the CHIRP Record Fair has been a highlight of the festival, and this year will be no exception. Hosted by the Chicago Independent Radio Project, the record fair overflows with albums for perusal and purchase, and all the shopping supports this not-for-profit community radio station, independent record stores and labels.

COTERIE
At this summer’s festival Coterie Chicago will proudly present the wares of 40 hand-picked artists and craftspeople. Selected by a jury attentive to style and originality, the Coterie collection will include locally designed clothing, handmade jewelry, unique paper goods, original artwork, community sourced home furnishings, and much more.

FLATSTOCK PRESENTED BY API
The Flatstock poster show, hosted by the American Poster Institute, has long been a fixture of the PMF. Featuring stunning designs and hand-pulled prints from some of the fiercest gig-poster producers in the country, this art show, poster sale, and community event is a natural companion to Pitchfork’s weekend of music. This year’s vendors include The Bird Machine, Aesthetic Apparatus, Landland, Burlesque of North America, Crosshair, Sonnenzimmer, Delicious Design League, Casey Burns and over 30 more.

FOOD VENDORS
Several varied Chicago vendors will provide grandiose gustation ranging from vegan to meat, southwest BBQ to Eastern Asian cuisine, and everything in between making this year’s festival food fare the best yet. This year’s food vendors include Wishbone, Rice Table, Bombay Station, Black Dog Gelato, Abbey Pub, Urb Garden, Robinson’s, O’Briens, Chicago Diner, Temptation Dessert, Goose Island, Chicago Homemade Pizza Company, Big Delicious Planet, Star Lounge, and Big Star.

JOHALLA PROJECTS
New this year, the PMF will feature two large-scale art installations from Chicago-based Johalla Projects (www.JohallaProjects.com). Pitchfork enlisted Johalla Projects Director Anna Cerniglia to produce the two installations from local-Chicago artists Matthew Hoffman and Andrea Jablonski. Be on the look out, you won’t want to miss them.

LOCKERS
Need a safe and secure place to keep your belongings during the festival? For the first time ever, PMF is offering lockers which can be rented for just one day or the entire weekend. Take advantage of this opportunity now, before they sell out! http://www.entertainmentlockers.com/pitchfork/

RIDESHARE PROGRAM
Those interested in carpooling to the festival can look into rideshare opportunities through amovens: http://us.amovens.com/en/rideshare/pitchfork-music-festival/0/.

SOUNDPLAY ARCADE
Pitchfork recently announced the launch of Soundplay, an interactive program focused on the intersections of music, gaming, and technology. In conjunction with Intel, Pitchfork has commissioned some of the most innovative game developers working today to create new, original games inspired by songs we love. These games don’t just use music as a soundtrack; their scenes, characters, and settings are all driven by the song. Soundplay’s games were produced by our partners at the video games art and culture magazine Kill Screen. The first three games take their inspiration from tracks by M83, Cut Copy, and Matthew Dear, and two more will be introduced in the coming weeks. The 2012 PMF will feature the Soundplay Arcade, which will allow fans to play all five games in the series. http://soundplay.pitchfork.com/
