THE STIMULATORS – The long awaited re-issue of this classic NYC punk cassette is available now on CD and vinyl! This record is a must for any self-respecting punk’s collection. After all, are there any three words that sum up the punk sound better than ‘Loud Fast Rules!’? In 1977, after hearing The Damned, Motorhead and The Clash, guitarist Denise Mercedes returned from London and decided to start her own band. She recruited LES poet Patrick Mack on guitar and vocals, artist and fashionista Nick Marden on bass and, after trying out the likes of Jerry Nolan (Heartbreakers, NY Dolls) and Johnny Blitz (Dead Boys) on drums, settled on a then 11 year-old Harley Flanagan (Cro-Mags, Harley’s War). Soon the Stims gained a rabid fan club of the youngest rock n rollers in the city and became regulars at legendary clubs like Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s and Danceteria, sharing bills with bands like Richard Hell and The Voidoids, Bad Brains, Suicide, B-52s and The Cramps. http://www.roir-usa.com

ART SHOW – Ménage à trois featuring artwork by Susan Melanie Berry, Steve Olson, and Craig Stecyk at New Image Art Gallery – 7908 Santa Monica Blvd. – West Hollywood, CA 90046. The show runs through November 13th, 2010. Literally translating to “household of three” New Image Art’s latest exhibition “Ménage à trois” showcases the works of Steve Olson, Susanne Melanie Berry, and CR Stecyk III; three long-time comrades showing large-scale works, photographs and posters. Via underlying sexual innuendos this new show traverses the phenomenon of how the socio-cultural aspects of sex both influences and is derived from social norms, including the effects of political process and the mass media. Olson’s bold imagery, layered textures, and deconstructed materials lend a playful dynamic between art and language while simultaneously critiquing contemporary society and our relationship with it. These processes are also reflected in CR Stecyk’s showcard ad-style images which he typically installs on random telephone poles and abandoned buildings. Susanne Melanie Berry presents a delicate photo series of women’s under garments as still-life’s. Using a Polaroid Land Camera and pull apart film, she creates one-off photographic documents that reveal the workings of an intimate relationship between the undergarments owner and the viewer as participating voyeur. http://www.newimageartgallery.com/

TOY ART GALLERY – They have names like Lip Vagina Monster and Jumping Brain. They’re made by international artists, Hollywood filmmakers and millionaire executives with creative itches. They sell for thousands of dollars each, and go on to become worth many times more. And they’re toys. High-end, one-of-a-kind toys are the newest offshoot of the ‘low-brow’ art movement – riffs on underground, street and pop culture – born in 1970s Los Angeles. So it makes sense that Hollywood boasts the world’s first Toy Art Gallery. Prolific toy art collectors include Nike CEO Mark Parker, celebrated artist Mark Nagata, and TAG founder Gino Joukar, who opened the gallery not one year ago to share his passion with the world. Toy art is inspired by everything from old Japanese cartoons to music to politics. They’re a diverse bunch, comprising insiders from companies like Pixar and Upper Playground, to Radiohead cover designer Jermaine Rogers, to Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez, the Venezuelan artist whose customers include Jeff Koons, creator of the most expensive piece by a living artist ever auctioned ($25.7 million). http://www.toyartgallery.com
