MoMa Exclusive: Skateroom X Jean-Michel Basquiat Collectible Skate Deck Triptychs

SAMO IS DEADIn the 1980s, Basquiat rose to art stardom as he fused his graffiti roots, a la Brooklyn, with his fragmented poetry to create an optical rhetoric that still inspires and shapes the landscape of post-modernists and taggers alike. Now his work comes to life again as the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat collaborates with the Skateroom to create two triptychs on fresh pressed 7-ply Canadian Maple wood. The series features Basquiat’s In Italian (1983) and Untitled – Skull (1981), both of which are prime examples of his postmodern transformation.
