KINGS HIGHWAY DIY IN MISSOURI – Kings Highway is an under-the-bridge DIY spot in St. Louis, Missouri. Our friend, Jonathan Ware, sent us some photos of their progress. Spots like this are crucial. Taking inspiration from the veterans at Burnside and FDR, these guys are on the daily grind to build and destroy their own stomping ground, seeking out the resources, taking the time to construct and then annihilating it with their skates. HIT UP THEIR WEBSITE and help answer the call. Bring cinder blocks, dirt, rocks, rebar, concrete, mason mix, tools, and work! By Skaters. For Skaters. For Life. See more photos here.

PINK MOTEL PARTY – Beers, bros and the ultimate backyard, the Pink Motel… This party in the Pink was one good time for all. When you need a dose of the brotherhood of skateboarding, here it is. There was endless heckling and boards tapping on the coping all night long. Special guests included some of the heaviest characters in skateboarding with Rick Blackhart cheering and jeering every run, while Malba emceed and tried to control the flow of the session, and Duncan, Reategui, Ngoho, Skreech and a slew of hardcores partied their heads off. Badlanders massacred the deep end, while Lance Mountain provided decades of Pink Motel inspiration to the generations of skateboarders that got together for this bro-down. We could go on and make a giant list of names of all the pool warriors that were there and tell you how hard they all ripped, but check out this video instead and see for yourself. This is skateboarding. For more JuiceTV go to http://www.juicemagazine.com/JUICETV.html

NEW MELVINS EP, SCION A/V PRESENTS: THE BULLS & THE BEES, ON MAR. 13 – Scion A/V has partnered with the Melvins for an EP titled Scion A/V Presents: The Bulls & The Bees,  a five-song collection that marks the band’s first original material since their 2010 album The Bride Screamed Murder.   The release will be available as a free download on Mar. 13 via Scion A/V’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/scionav) with “The War On Wisdom” streaming this Friday on Pitchfork.com. The Melvins formed in 1983, kicking off what would be a seismic shift in heavy music and focusing the epicenter of modern music firmly on the Pacific Northwest for the next decade plus.  The band blended punk, metal, hard rock  to create a new subgenre that has been tagged with a variety of labels including sludge, grunge and doom and won a cult of fans that have yet to waiver some twenty-nine years into the band’s career.  Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover have been the band’s constants (Crover joined in 1984) with Big Business’ Jared Warren and Coady Willis joining the band in 2006 for (A) Senile Animal. “The Melvins have remained such a consistent presence in heavy music,” says Jeri Yoshizu, manager of sales promotions for Scion.  “It’s an honor to have them create an original release for Scion A/V.”

METALLICA announces ORION MUSIC + MORE – June 23-24, 2012 in Atlantic City, NJ. Metallica, in conjunction with friends C3 Presents, today announced the creation of Orion Music + More, a new annual music, arts, and lifestyle festival founded and headlined by the band, a natural progression for a band that has headlined legendary festivals around the world for years. Orion Music + More will take place June 23-24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey. “We’ve had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years,” said Lars Ulrich. “Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bring Orion to our fans, friends and the curious. After the most incredible of weeks ever in December 2011 celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA, bringing the spirit of that week, the looseness of that week, the possibilities of that week, the fan interactive elements of that week, and the (fill in your own blank here) of that week to a festival setting is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves.” Orion Music + More will feature multiple live music stages plus a lifestyle element that reflects each of Metallica’s band members many personal interests. Metallica will headline both nights of Orion Music + More and play “The Black Album” in its entirety one night Ride The Lightning in its entirety the other. This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012. The lineup for Orion Music + More will span multiple musical genres. From punk to country, over 20 bands will perform, including: Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, The Gaslight Anthem, Cage The Elephant, Fucked Up, Best Coast, Hot Snakes, Titus Andronicus, Gary Clark Jr., Lucero, Roky Erickson, The Black Angels, The Sword, Liturgy, and more to be announced in the coming weeks.

CRAIG STECYK III WORK SHOP AND ART SHOW – juiceskateboardmagazine.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/craig-stecyk-iii-work-shop-and-art-show/

HAMMER
MADE IN L.A. 2012 – The Hammer Museum presents Made in L.A., the first in an ongoing series of exhibitions focused on artwork created in the Los Angeles region. Made in L.A. 2012, organized by the Hammer Museum in collaboration with LA><ART, will be presented at the Hammer Museum, LA><ART and the L.A. Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park from June 3 – September 2, 2012. Building upon the tradition of Hammer Invitational exhibitions, Made in L.A. 2012 will feature roughly 60 artists with an emphasis on emerging and under-recognized artists. The Hammer is also pleased to announce that Wells Fargo has come on board as Made in L.A 2012’s Presenting Sponsor, an important and substantial commitment to this inaugural citywide event. Made in L.A. 2012 is organized by a team of curators from both institutions including Hammer Senior Curator Anne Ellegood, Hammer Curator Ali Subotnick, LA><ART Director Lauri Firstenberg, LA><ART Associate Director and Senior Curator Cesar Garcia, and LA><ART Curator-at-large Malik Gaines. The exhibition will debut new installations, videos, films, sculptures, performances, and paintings commissioned specifically for the exhibition and will offer a snapshot of the current trends and practices coming out of Los Angeles, one of the most active and energetic art communities in the world. Made in L.A. 2012 will also include the Venice Beach Biennial, from July 13 – 15, 2012, made possible through the generous support of the Teiger Foundation. For this unconventional and slightly unpredictable project directed by Ali Subotnick, the Venice Beach boardwalk will become a readymade exhibition space inspired by the Arsenale at the “real” Venice Biennale. Over the course of the weekend, 40 to 50 artists will collaborate with boardwalk artists, creating new bodies of work, displaying site specific sculptures and/or installations, and presenting performances along the boardwalk.
