LINCOLN RAMP R.I.P. – Much respect to Heidi Lemmon and all the folks that have donated time and energy and influence to maintaining the Lincoln Ramp in Los Angeles, CA. Chris Eidem shared his thoughts, “Good times indeed. That ramp traveled around SoCal as a touring ramp for Circle M (Mario Martinez) Ramps in 1998, in 2000 got bought by a skateshop that had a brief stint across the street from Bartel’s Harley on Lincoln. In 2001 Dan Belanger, Jim Callans, Carter Falco and myself moved it piece by piece in a Ford F150 up Lincoln Blvd. to Old Star Skateshop in Santa Monica, few years later it made its way into Heidi’s hands and thousands of skaters, local and traveling from all around the world, got to taste a piece of the coping.” Lincoln Ramp R.I.P. SKATEPARK UPDATE : TEAM PAIN x LAFAYETTE PARK

Company: Team Pain
Park: Lafayette, Co.
Who was on the crew that built the skatepark?
The crew was a mix of Team Pain veterans with some Colorado locals to round out the line up: James Hedrick, Troy Nichols, Bret Papini, Joe Fernandez, Lance Spiker, Chris Berry, Johny Fairplay, Chris Withrop, Sean Kelly, and Curt Baker.
Staff Photo: Chris Sessions
How did you decide on the design for the park?
Our design process usually starts with several meetings with the local skaters and city officials. In Lafayette the skaters wanted to go big, big vert bowl, big stairs. Parks and rec wanted the best. A skater built world class park. Together, TP and the skate community came up with a killer design. Once on site the crew has almost total freedom to change and improve the park. The people on our concrete crew are all accomplished skaters, you don’t skate all the time you don’t work for us. It’s our job to make a good plan into a great park. The city of Lafayette understood this. They purchased a whole parking lot full of unique materials to add to the park. There was huge granite slabs, brick pavers, tons of large rocks, cut and raw, white marble with tyranny already cut into them and lots of pool coping. When we started grabbing the new curbs from the parking lot they asked if they could get us more. The city was totally behind us and it was fun and challenging to figure out what to do with all this stuff.
What do you like best about the skatepark?
Skating it. A whole lot of ideas that we’ve been working on for years came together in this park and it’s a blast.
Where is your next building project?
Arvada Co., The Arvada Army is expecting big things from us. We are recreating a Team Pain clasic, The Charleston Hanger, the indoor version with the extra bowl.

A tribute to the future! Bravo, Lake Forest!” The expansion concept created by skateboarder and community input, Nick Gates and the City of Lake Forest staff, and SITE Design Group, Inc., is scheduled to be completed by California Skateparks in mid-July 2011. CHAD SHETLER THREE-PEATS AS THE 4TH ANNUAL ULTIMATE BOARDER CHAMPION – On a picture-perfect, sunny day at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, Calif., Dana Point’s Chad Shetler sealed his third straight victory as the reigning Ultimate Boarder Champion. By finishing fourth in the final skateboarding leg on the vert/mini ramp, Shetler took home not only bragging rights as the best all around board sports athlete on snow, surf and skate ramp, but he also pocketed $25,000 out of a $50,000 purse prize. “ I am incredibly stoked to have come out on top, especially since this was the toughest year of competition yet in terms of the high caliber of athletes and the rough elements,” said Shetler. “Overall it was a pretty amazing week, and getting to miss work to go snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding, is definitely something you can’t beat,” added Shetler who has a full time job in the marketing department at LOST, an action sports company based in Orange County. For fans that came out to watch, it was an action packed day with over 50 athletes competing on the vert/mini ramp putting on an impressive display of performance maneuvers from technical grinds to big aerial maneuvers. From young groms like Tom Schaar who won the youth division in skateboarding to today’s overall winner, Willis Kimball, and legendary skateboarder Steve Caballero who individually took first place in the team pro/am division, there was never a dull moment on the ramp. “I think what’s so amazing about this event is that it brings legends with young kids who can beat guys twice their age and lets them all shine,” said competitor Bryan Richardson of San Diego, Calif. “Today’s event is proof that fans and athletes alike love being able to watch and participate in all three sports. After all, surfing helps your skating, skating helps your snowboarding and vice versa,” he added.
At the end of the day, there was an award’s ceremony crowning today’s overall skateboard winners as well as the overall winners after the entire board sports triathlon. The awards ceremony ended with a few bottles of champagne being poured over Ultimate Boarders’s overall winner Chad Shelter as well as the second and thirds place overall Ultimate Boarder Champions Trevor Jacob and Shayne Pospisil. “This was by far the best year yet,” said event founder Tim Hoover. “I have never seen so much excitement from the fans and athletes at one event. I already have people calling me from France, Australia and in Asia to compete next year.” The top ten overall placing athletes earned automatic entries for next year’s Ultimate Boarder Championship. Along with Shetler, Trevor Jacob, Shayne Pospisil, Ricky Lovato, Tosh Towned, Bryce Young, Adam Taylor, Brian Richardson, Josh Morse, and BJ Linne all have reserved spots in the fifth annual Ultimate Boarder. A WORD FROM WAYNE KRAMER – “Hello friends, It’s Wayne writing with incredible news. A few days ago, as we prepared for the Jail Guitar Doors Benefit Friday night in Austin Texas with English Teeth, Salesman and Lions, a good man named JD Herman contacted us. JD’s brother Brad had died. Brad was an ex-offender and a musician who happened to own a music store in Houston. JD told us that, in his brother’s memory, his family had decided to donate the remaining inventory of amps, guitars and drums to Jail Guitar Doors! We are, of course, knocked out by their generosity and we have accepted the donation. You can read more about Brad Herman in a letter that his brother JD wrote to us. Now this is where you come in. We have to get this gear back to JGD-USA Headquarters in Los Angeles, CA. We are so determined to make good use of this donation that Margaret and I decided to rent a truck and drive the gear ourselves FOR THREE DAYS across country. But we need your help! Please sponsor us to get us home from Austin to Los Angeles. It’s 1,386 miles and that’s a lotta gas! No donation is too small and no donation is too big, even if it’s just $5 to help offset these bare bones expenses related to what we’ve now officially coined the BRAD HERMAN MEMORIAL GEAR RUN. This gear will go to inmates around the nation and will help them to rehabilitate. There are 2.5 million people in prison in America today. Almost all of them will rejoin us in our communities. Help them change for the better by learning to channel their feelings creatively. They will be our neighbors, our friends and family members. We’re posting our progress as we drive across country since we began on Saturday, July 16th and going all the way through until we return to LA, BY TONIGHT. No Sleep ‘Til West Hollywood! Please tell everyone you know and be sure to include this links in your email: Jail Guitar Doors USA Brad Herman Memorial Gear Run: http://jailguitardoors.org/donate.html

SOUL SURFER – TriStar and FilmDistrict presents SOUL SURFER. The story of the journey which life has given Bethany Hamilton is well known by many. At the age of 13 she suffered through the loss of her arm during a day surfing at Kauai’s North Shore. Since that day in 2003, Bethany has progressed far beyond what any doctors predictions could image. Not only is she still surfing, but as of 2007 Bethany turned a pro. Continuing to surf following a life altering experience in the water is both a mental and physical accomplishment greater than most can imagine. Now see her life and story on the big screen. Soul Surfer, a film directed by Sean McNamara, will roll out nationwide April 15, 2011. It’s a little ways away, but our guess is it will be worth it. See Bethany’s story portrayed by a star cast including the likes of Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid. http://www.soulsurferthemovie.com/
