THE BONES BRIDAGE DOCUMENTARY – Stacy, Rodney, CAB, Tony, MIke, Lance and Tommy will be working on a Bones Brigade Documentary starting in February 2011. On Monday, November 29th at Los Angeles International Airport, seven individuals that have had an extreme influence on skateboarding sat down to discuss work on a documentary of their experience. They met at the Encounter restaurant in the middle of the airport to begin work on this monumental film. Stacy wrote, “Those skaters known as the Bones Brigade are now old enough to take a look back.  At a time in the 80′s when many people were mourning the second death of skateboarding, the Bones Brigade through passion, drive, creativity and a surprising sense of teamwork redefined the sport for their time and the future”. Documentary filmmaker, Stacy Peralta in a new film with Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero and others will investigate the history, the team and the men to determine what is the legacy of the Bones Brigade. “Five years ago the guys got together and told me they wanted to do this. They believed they had a significant story others would want to know about.  So now we’re going to see.” Simultaneously, a Powell-Peralta coffee table book is in the works. It will include the Bones Brigade, but also other things you knew and didn’t know about Powell-Peralta. http://powell-peralta.com/

LOSER MACHINE ADRIAN LOPEZ CROSS DECK – 8.25″ x 32″ [14″ wheelbase] Check out the sick tattoo-esque graphic done as an homage to Los Losers and Adrian. Definitely stoked on the steep tail concave. Makes for better pop and better balance. With a 7-ply deck like this you’ll need to be putting down some super shgnar tricks to break this baby. http://www.losermachine.com

WARRIOR SKATEBOARDS – COME OUT TO SKATE is the name of this ‘promo’ video. WARRIOR SKATEBOARDS calls it a promo cause it’s what’s left after deleting all the horribly shaky stuff and understanding that some of the best footage simply got lost. Since the WARRIORS are really motivated in filming for a real, shiny and glossy hyper video they thought that they had to get rid of all this dust and get it on the net now. Unfortunately it was a bit more footage then expected and, after all, they recently added some new team members who brought along some footage too. Ahhh… Well, another plan which just didn’t work out… At least they had a damn good premiere and you’ve got something to watch now, don’t you?… http://www.warriorsskateboards.com

CHRIS SENN 8.0″ BLOOD WIZARD DECK – Hailing from the land of Gnar, Blood Wizard presents a series of boards that rip the competition to shreds.  This 8″ Chris Senn Pro Model is super solid and concaved to perfection and Skinner’s graphics are awesome.  Shout outs to Toad and Salmon and the rest of the Blood Wizard clan. http://bloodwizard.com/

CLICHE MARC MCKEE COLLAB DECK – One of two artist collabo decks Cliché will have out for this holiday season is the McKee American Icons 2 available in pool and street sizes designed by Marc Mckee. They’ve got some sick graphics coming up too.  While taking inspiration from society’s current state of affairs, this graphic also transcends generations. Not to mention it’s solid 7-ply. http://www.clicheskate.com

POWELL-PERALTA MIKE MCGILL DECK – Mike McGill re-issue from POWELL-PERALTA – We’re stoked on Powell-Peralta and the smooth ride their boards always give.  Check out their website for more decks and apparel and classic re-issues and designs. http://www.powell-peralta.com/

NIKE SB IN SPAIN – AMIGOS Y DEMONIOS by NIKE SB…. IPATH NEWS – Derelict is Fred Gall’s new low… Jersey’s Fred Gall wanted to go low with his second shoe on IPATH, hence the new silhouette that is the Derelict. Classic old-school low style with some beefed up elements. Suede is used in high-wear areas, with hemp added in where it makes sense. The shoe features triple stitching where it counts, a lightly padded collar, thing tongue, removable EVA insole and super grippy vulcanized outsole. This shoe is made for skating. Stash pockets under the tongues keep things worth stashing safe from prying eyes. Dropping at better skate retailers now and online at http://www.ipath.com

SAVE THE TURF – There have been many concrete parks that have closed for reasons beyond maintenance, but it is much harder to just permanently erase a concrete park. Take the Turf skatepark in Wisconsin for example. Opened in 1978 it was one of the largest indoor concrete parks in its area only to be filled up with gravel and covered by a twelve inch slab of concrete. Fast forward to today and the Turf is finding new life. A storage facility was built over it but then sold a couple months ago to the state of Wisconsin in order to make room for a new parking lot. After breaking through the concrete and digging down eight feet into the gravel the working crew had to stop and reassess what they were dealing with. Avid skate fans with retro Turf Member cards in hand flocked back to their spot with shovels, pick axes, and wheel barrows to start unearthing their favorite shred spot. Check out the photos of their excavation and find out how you can SAVE THE TURF! – http://www.savetheturf.com/

WOUNDED KNEE SKATEBOARDS – Jim Murphy is keeping it as real as it gets. Wounded Knee never forgets the warriors. Pick up the Sitting Bull tribute board, and respect the real soul of America. woundedkneeskateboards.net

The Icon x Icon project takes two of Nike’s most iconic skateboarders, Eric Koston and Brian Anderson and lets them completely customize two of Nike’s classic footwear models, the Dunk and the Blazer. With Icon x Icon, Brian and Eric were given carte blanche access to update the Blazer and the Dunk. In Brian’s case, customization led to a new SB shoe model. Check out the Nike SB special mini site that features the history of the Dunk and Blazer, footage from the backyard ramp jam ad shoot with Eric, Brian and friends, behind the scenes with Brian as he paints 250 shoe displays to be sent to SB dealers worldwide and in depth interviews with Brian and Eric. nike.com/nikeskateboarding/kostonxanderson

BUZZOV•EN West Coast Tour Underway. North Carolina sludge merchants BUZZOV•EN are currently filthifying the West Coast US this week. After just laying waste to San Diego and Los Angeles, tonight they infiltrate San Francisco as they head north through the rest of the week, unloading a plethora of scathing numbers from their vast arsenal of releases. View the tour poster and live footage of the band here. http://www.myspace.com/buzzovenofficial

THE STIMULATORS – The long awaited re-issue of this classic NYC punk cassette is available now on CD and vinyl! This record is a must for any self-respecting punk’s collection. After all, are there any three words that sum up the punk sound better than ‘Loud Fast Rules!’? In 1977, after hearing The Damned, Motorhead and The Clash, guitarist Denise Mercedes returned from London and decided to start her own band. She recruited LES poet Patrick Mack on guitar and vocals, artist and fashionista Nick Marden on bass and, after trying out the likes of Jerry Nolan (Heartbreakers, NY Dolls) and Johnny Blitz (Dead Boys) on drums, settled on a then 11 year-old Harley Flanagan (Cro-Mags, Harley’s War). Soon the Stims gained a rabid fan club of the youngest rock n rollers in the city and became regulars at legendary clubs like Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s and Danceteria, sharing bills with bands like Richard Hell and The Voidoids, Bad Brains, Suicide, B-52s and The Cramps. http://www.roir-usa.com

WEEDEATER – After over two incredibly action/drama/injury/tour-soaked years of constant insanity, North Carolina sludge crusaders WEEDEATER have completed their long-delayed, yet more anticipated-than-ever, fourth full-length release. The intoxicating ten-track brutalizer, dubbed Jason… The Dragon, has been scheduled for worldwide release on March 1st, 2011 via Southern Lord Recordings. After over a year of literally crippling injuries to all three of WEEDEATER’s members hitting the headlines, including infamous classics like “Dixie Dave blew off part of his foot with a shotgun,” or ”Keko tore his meniscus this week,” and “Shep broke his damn pinkie on tour” or even “Dixie nearly died in his ninja-scuba assassin Halloween costume” and more, the band still forged on through these blows for multiple tours, several regional and national headlining tours, as well as supporting Down and The Melvins, to finally complete this record. As with their Southern Lord debut God Luck And Good Speed, the Jason… album was mastered by the legendary John Golden at Golden Studios in southern California, unearthing the true grit that this band dumps forth. With no argument to be had, Jason… is by far WEEDEATER’s most varied and organic recording to date, taking their caustic, chest-collapsing, resin-coated ultrasludge to new otherworldly new realms of delirium just by taking it all closer to home, stripping their tonal onslaught down to acoustic bass at times, perfectly infusing a bit of banjo and piano, and even utilizing some new vocal tactics. Diehards fear not; this IS still WEEDEATER. It’s just WEEDEATER at their finest hour… yet. http://www.myspace.com/weedeater

WRECK THE WALLS – Wreck the Walls includes works by over 30 artists, established and emerging, who have helped shape the artistic spirit influenced by their times. Rebellious pioneers of their artistic genres, who come from a background where there are few rules and anything is possible, have helped pave the way for a younger generation of artists who are influenced by their prevailing subculture. From gallery to street art, this show expresses each artist’s divergence and individuality, offering a visual cornucopia of painting, photography, mixed media, works on paper, digital prints, sculpture, graphic design, and illustration.
This show seeks to allow the viewer a window into the myriad worlds of a group of artists whose careers span over two cultural generations, and whose individual visions create a disjointed mosaic. Their works recall the vastly differing self-perceptions cultivated in a patchwork art world constantly seeking to define and redefine itself. Wreck the Walls embraces the multiple identities of the artistic practice, and rather than seeking to congeal the complex layers of artistic vision that make up the culture, the show celebrates distinct perceptions by juxtaposing artists, whether established or emerging, who reject uniformity in a culture that defies singular classification. Participating Artists Include: Alan Shaffer, Alejandro Gehry, Andy Moses, Bertil Petersson, Billy Al Bengston, Blek Le Rat, Craig Stecyk, Curtis Kulig, David Ellis, David Yow, Ed Moses, Ellwood T. Risk, Erik Foss, Eric Schwartz, Eric White, Evan Hecox, Greg Lamarche, Jason Alper, John Van Hamersveld, Laddie John Dill, Larry Bell, Martha Cooper, Monica Canilao, Retna, Robbie Conal, Ryan McGinness, Ryan Travis Christian, Skullphone, Swoon, Tim Biskup, Vanessa Prager, Kelly Berg. BING AND JACOBS MOVE TO THE HILL – This fall, Bing & Jacobs Surfboards will move its operation to Encinitas, San Diego and into the factory currently occupied by Precision Fiberglassing (better known as Channin Surfboards). This location known as “The Hill” was made famous for its surfboard manufacturing, producing brands such as Channin, Velzy, Surfboards Hawaii, Yater, Tudor Surfboards, and more. Bing & Jacobs Surfboards, head shaper and owner, Matt Calvani explains, “I’ve always really liked North County San Diego, not only for its quality waves but also for its close-knit community of dedicated surfers. It’s definitely an area I can see raising my family in too, so when Tony [Channin] called and said he was looking to retire – it was a chance of a lifetime.” Tony Channin reflects, “For the past 30 years, Channin Surfboards’ dedication to quality and craftsmanship has made “The Hill” world renown. It is only fitting then that the torch be passed to Matt Calvani, whose mutual appreciation for the craft of surfboard building will perpetuate that reputation. I can’t even begin to express how stoked I am to know that our Channin and Siren Surfboard and SUP lines will be built to the same standards of excellence that I have made the cornerstone of my career; and that Matt has brought to Bing & Jacobs Surfboards. This will be an exciting time of growth for ‘The Hill’ and the North County surfing community.” Bing & Jacobs will re-locate its current operation along with a partial crew from Los Angeles later this year. Calvani looks to integrate them with the existing crew at Precision Fiberglassing, some of the best craftsmen in the industry. THE HISTORY OF SURFING – Surfing has captured the American psyche for decades. The sport of kings has inspired films, songs, and enchanted generations of men and women looking for the next big wave. In the new book, The History of Surfing, noted surf historian Matt Warshaw undertakes the formidable task of capturing the narrative and significance of surfing. Matt spent 5 years researching and writing this book, including trips around the world to track down the story of how surfing grew from an outsider hobby to a worldwide sport; how its center shifted from Hawaii to Southern California; and how money changed everything. At 250,000 words, 496 pages, 250 rare photos, and 5 lbs–this book is massive. Matt Warshaw has authored several books on surfing, and was a past editor of SURFER magazine. His work is often cited and he is frequently called upon to provide commentary on surf history and culture. THE JAY AT MAVERICKS – A group of Maverick’s competitors and long-time big wave event organizers has formed with intentions to plan and organize the only big wave surf competition to take place at Maverick’s in the 2010-2011 season. The group recently submitted its permit application, which will be reviewed by the San Mateo County Harbor District. The surfer’s group plans to name the event ‘The Jay at Maverick’s Big Wave Invitational’ in honor of Jay Moriarity, one of the sport’s greatest watermen. ‘We are close to making this grassroots effort a reality,’ said Grant Washburn, a well-known surfer and one of The Jay at Maverick’s group organizers. ‘Watching the surfers and the community rally around The Jay has been incredible. By dedicating this event to his memory, and sharing the excitement and the prosperity with local youth groups, we will be channeling the Maverick’s energy to one of Jay’s favorite places: the next generation.’ While recent Maverick’s events have been organized by Mavericks Surf Ventures Corp., event competitors – including last year’s 24 invitees and more than 50 of the world’s top big wave surfers – have pledged their support to The Jay at Maverick’s, indicating they no longer wish to participate in events organized by MSV Corp. due to the company’s inability to provide ongoing backing for the event itself, and its lack of respect for the community. The surfers’ group takes its responsibility to the competitors, fans, and the local community very seriously and plans to launch a historic partnership with a number of local charities including the Half Moon Bay Parent Action Committee, The Boys and Girls Club on the Coast and the Jay Moriarity Foundation. www.thejayatmavericks.com. Organizers also expect that the waiting period for this year’s event will be between Nov. 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011, a period of time when Mother Nature is most likely to deliver the next 40-50 foot waves to Half Moon Bay. http://www.surfersvillage.com/surfing/48350/surf-news.htm

HIGHWATER a documentary film by Dana Brown (Step Into Liquid). Featuring Jon-Jon Florence and family, Carrissa Moore, Malik Joyeux, Mark Healy, Poncho Sullivan, Kalani Chapman, Sunny Garcia, Kelly Slater, Tom Curren, Pat OConnell, Sofia Mulanovich, Chelsea Georgeson, Rochelle Ballard, Andy Irons, Joey Cabell and Brian Kealana. Welcome to the North Shore of Oahu – the 7 Mile Miracle – surfings Xanadu. A freak of nature that is long considered the ultimate test for surfers. It is the Triple Crown – the final 3 contests of the year – held in the cyclone of the North Shore between Halloween and Christmas Eve. The Triple Crown is a catalyst for a big wave soap opera that unfolds around, beside and away from the actual contests. Fifty-five days of low comedy, high drama and nonstop jaw dropping action with the biggest waves, while the best surfers young and old, men and women, take the challenge on this beautiful, compelling earthly and human landscape. The North Shores population triples and locals are joined by heroes, posers, legends, leeches, fans, fanatics, dreamers, saints and sinners looking for money, fame, redemption, love, lust, inspiration, parties, respect and surf. 400 will arrive to confront their fears of whether or not they should have come: 50 will nearly drown, boards will be broken, stitches given, a few dreams fulfilled, a few nightmares visited, legends bestowed and revoked. For some, nothing will ever be the same. Director Dana Brown previously explored the world of surfing in the critically acclaimed Step into Liquid and collaborations with his father, Bruce Brown, including Endless Summer II, Endless Summer Revisited and On any Given Sunday Revisited. On Highwater, the family tradition continues, as Dana collaborates with his son, Wes. vanssurf.com/highwater
