BLOOD FOR BLOOD

BLOOD IN THE STREETS OF BOSTON
BY JEFF JOBES

It’s been a long time since the scene has experienced such sincere hatred coupled with quality music. So many bands are pissed off, but few have the talent to make you understand why. Blood For Blood has that talent. Their sound blends the metal-tinged hardcore of today with the societal-reject subject matter of yesterday. Hailing from deep within the bowels of Boston, Blood For Blood proudly wears their blue collar, outcast/outlaw brand on their sleeve. Living In Exile, the band’s third release on Victory Records, is an amazing progression for Boston’s most infamous. The seven-song EP has the band sounding tighter than ever, with a groove that they have claimed as their own.

Despite being influenced by everyone from Carnivore, Sheer Terror and Agnostic Front to the Misfits and the Dead Kennedys, drummer Mike Mahoney claims “We don’t hold true to any scene, punk, hardcore, whatever. None of us give a fuck. We’re playing the music we want to play and we will take this band as far as we want to on our terms. We’re going to do what we want to to do and that’s how it’s going to get done.”

Blood For Blood showed up on the recent Motorhead tribute and immediately went for the classic “Ace of Spades”, not because it’s the most popular Motorhead song, but because lyrically, it resembled the band’s philosophy. “We knew we could pull it off and make it sound like a Blood For Blood song.”

And on the subject of philosophy, the band feels that it is important to point out that their music “is for the kids who have ever been kicked down, held down and locked out. It goes out to all the outcasts, rejects, and the people who don’t know where to turn in life. If you’ve ever felt this way, this is for you.”

If you’re lucky enough to be in Boston when Blood For Blood is playing, check them out. The band isn’t shy about their hometown pride, claiming that “Boston is by far the biggest scene in the Northeast and pretty much the world.”
