Super athletes. Amazing talent. A perfect contest. Those are just a few comments used to describe the Van’s Amateur Combi Pool Classic that went down March 8 in Orange, California. In a demonstration of skill that left onlookers stunned, competitors skated fiercely for a cut of a $10,000 prize purse.

With unmatched lines through the pool and strong tricks like invert revert, Tristan Rennie swept first in the 15 and over division for the second year in a row. Tristan felt his entire second run helped him, with trick combo’s like 540 – back lip – back smith – blunt off the hip, and front side nose grind – Ollie fakie – truck bash.

Trey Wood nailed highest score in the 14 and under division. When asked which tricks he felt landed him first place, Trey replied his top 3 would be slob 360 around the corner, air to fake around the corner, and full cab body jar.

No one could have summed up the contest experience better than the man who started World Cup Skateboarding, Don Bostick. “Van’s Amateur Combi Pool Party is one of my favorite events of the year. The ams are truly amazing, skating at such a high level. It warms my heart to see the kids are carrying on the pure joy of skating bowls and doing it with such style and emotion.”

Watch out pros. These kids are moving in one direction only. Up and higher.
