Royal Headache hit our desk a couple months back and after summer hit it finally made sense. Tailored to the pop punk crowd, these Australians rip, whine and wail for 12 tracks. It’s a quick 26 minute album that doesn’t ask you to open mind any farther than it is, however that works for summer bum season. See them on Juice Sk8tracks Volume 4.

Royal Headache’s debut album, out May 8th on What’s Your Rupture?, is a collection of hard-charging soul-punk morsels, brief in duration, but as permanent to one’s psyche as a tattoo on skin. The immediacy of these songs is undeniable, as proven by the fact that both SPIN and NPR Music have chosen to stream the album in its entirety. NPR Music’s Otis Hart calls the set “an unabashed throwback to an era full of blue-eyed men copping and caffeinating the moves of Motown and Memphis, when rock stood in awe of soul music’s ecstasy and agony,” while SPIN’s David Bevan calls it “a power-pop throwdown that boasts the torque of hardcore and the dulcet tones of soul, all of which you can writhe and shimmy to.” Listen to the record and judge for yourself.
