Hey, John John. This is Dibi. How are you?
Hi, Dib.

Sorry, I had to call you so early. I know you’re getting ready for school.
That’s okay. It’s cool.

What grade are you in?
I’m in tenth grade.

How are you doing in school?
I’m doing good.

What music have you been listening to lately?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath, Guns N Roses, the Misfits and stuff.

Do you listen to different music before you go skating than you do surfing?
Before I go skate, I listen to Motorhead.

[Laughs] Uh, yeah. You listen to Motorhead before you do anything, huh?
[Laughs] Yeah.

What else you been listening to?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Johnny Cash and Elvis.

How old were you when you started surfing?
I was about two and a half.

Who made your first surfboard?
I don’t know.

Who makes your board now?
I have a mixture of boards. John Pyzel has been shaping boards for me. I also have a Mayhem.

What do you think about double grab airs?
I don’t know. They’re cool, I guess, as long as you hang in the air. Some people say it’s cheating.

What do you think?
It’s kind of cheating, but not really. You’re still getting in the air.

As long as you get air, that’s all that matters?
Kinda, yeah.

What kind of skateboard are you riding?
Anti-Hero.

What’s your favorite place to skate?
I like to skate at Steve’s bowl, Hickam or Graveside. We went to Graveside yesterday and that was really fun.

Didn’t you skate Scotland recently?
Yeah, I went to Scotland and that place is so fun. There are such good skateparks there.

How was the surf?
The surf was actually really fun.

Did you see any ghosts?
No, but I felt like they were around. A couple of times the TV turned on and off and stuff like that.

The people over there talk about seeing them all the time, huh?
[Laughs] Yeah.

[Laughs] What is it like going skating with your mom?
I like skating with my mom because she’s always trying to push me. We have fun. She can skate really good and get grinds and stuff.

Do you drop in on her?
Yeah.

Do you drop in on your brothers?
Yeah.

Do they drop in on you?
[Laughs] Yeah.

What happens in the line up if some kook drops in on somebody at Pipe?
They either get slapped by one of the boys or told to go home and never come back.
